Adam (Justin Hartley) just couldn’t take it on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Yes, Michael (Christian LeBlanc) advised him to cite temporary insanity at his hearing. But, he knew that he’d attacked an innocent prison guard and deserved to be punished. So, in response to the Genoa City Court judge’s third attempt to get a response, Adam pled guilty.
Hardcore viewers of ‘The Young and the Restless‘ know this man’s plight. Even thought he never saw Delia (Sophie Pollono) on that dark October night in 2013, Adam is believed to have accidentally killed her. While that subjective storyline remains open for future revision, there is no doubt that he bludgeoned a Walworth guard who was in his cell.

Believing that Victor (Eric Braeden) had not only framed him, but morphed into a prison employee, Adam’s mind slipped Freudian style. While the real guard was only trying to help an inmate who hadn’t eaten or slept for days, Adam literally went berserk and attacked him on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Two other guards entered the cell and tased Adam, who was then strangling the man he thought was Victor.
Having worked through the incredible stress brought on by being held responsible for Delia’s death and then surviving a fiery car crash, with resulting face-altering plastic surgery, would have been enough for any man. But, within the world of Adam Newman there’s always some new disaster to be confronted, even though he was just days away from been cleared of Constance’s (Sally Kellerman) murder. However, this time Adam decided not to fight legal assault charges because he knows he was responsible for a prison guard lapsing into a coma.

Having had his 10-year sentence for Delia’s death previously vacated through Victor’s influence, Adam must believe that his current predicament was fated. Initially telling Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) that he would fix what he’d done, Adam later flashed-back to the beating he inflicted upon the guard. After doing so, he went against Michael’s advice in an attempt to balance the scales of justice. Whether his penance plea holds remains to be seen.
