‘The Young and the Restless’ RUMOR: Steve Burton Door Remains Open – Dylan Unlikely to Be Killed Off

'The Young and the Restless' RUMOR: Steve Burton Door Remains Open – Dylan Unlikely to Be Killed OffSteve Burton (Dylan) won’t be seen on ‘The Young and the Restless’ after January. But the actor’s amiable break from the show has been handled in a manner that may allow him to return someday. As a result, rumors indicate that the Dylan character is unlikely to be killed off.

December 9 was the final day of Burton’s current run on Y&R and it could prove to be his swan song. However, the veteran daytime actor provided advanced notice of his departure. His employer was allowed an opportunity to create an exit storyline for his character and didn’t have to handle negative publicity that a controversial separation would have sparked.

Former head writer Chuck Pratt Junior’s last script was seen on December 6. The work of Sally Sussman and her team was seen the next day. So, in this particular case, a major character is being written out by two contingents of soap scribes.

Sussman’s stated goal of restoring Y&R to a character-driven show that centers upon legacy characters indicates that respect will be offered to the audience. Killing off Dylan wouldn’t betray that philosophy because he doesn’t represent a deep part of the show’s history. Instead, he’s an extension of Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and Paul’s (Doug Davidson) backstories.

However, Burton’s star power within the genre, professional nature and chemistry with his cast mates makes him a plausible rehire candidate. Sussman doesn’t appear to project the type of personality that would have Burton return as a twin, or as some other type of character. And, of course, this future view does assume that he will eventually opt to play in Genoa City again.

Burton recently describe his new business venture Hollywood Schooled as “passion project” via a Facebook Live promotional video. So at this point in time his effort to assist aspiring actors isn’t the main reason why he opted to leave Y&R.

The long-time soap opera actor also noted that he’ll be spending time with his family during the upcoming holidays, will be continuing video game voice over work as the character Cloud Strife, plans to work with his band Port Chuck and will audition for unspecified roles in the future.

It’s obvious that Burton’s career success is allowing him to walk away from a lucrative role on daytime’s top-rated steamer. He’s understandably keeping his options open and has never said that he won’t return to Y&R. Therefore, it’s logical to conclude that Dylan won’t be killed off. If he is that would be quite the shocker and this scribe will pen an oops column.
