“The Young and The Restless” Jack (Peter Bergman) remains in the dark. He doesn’t know that Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) and Billy (Jason Thompson) have been involved for awhile. That’s why Jack’s recent offer for Billy to return to Jabot and work with ‘Red’ could prove explosive. Moving beyond the script, fans of ‘The Young and the Restless’ have been forced to ask if the chemistry between Tognoni and Thompson is believable?
One of the more controversial storyline directions continues to be pushed through the summer. ‘Philly’, the power couple formed by Phyllis and Billy, has elicited mixed reactions from the fan base. Some believe the Jack and Phyllis make a good couple. Others think that ‘Phack’ is staid and that Jack is old enough to be Phyllis’ father, so Billy is a better age fit. Others point to Billy’s seemingly enduring connection with Victoria (Amelia Heinle). With whatever one’s preference, there’s no doubt that ‘Philly’ has attracted interest.
Billy Miller’s version of Billy Abbott will likely always remain the most revered, as will the manner in which Michelle Stafford played Phyllis when she became the initial image of Phyllis. Tognoni is carving a smoother version of the Phyllis character. For starters, her ‘Red’ isn’t openly vindictive. Thompson’s nuanced version of Billy deserves recognition as well. He’s offering a different interpretation of the frantic character that fans of ‘The Young and the Restless’ have ridden with for years.
It might be worthwhile to view the pairing of Thompson and Tognoni through a modern frame of reference. Yes, Miller and Stafford once embodied the same characters and, at their shared time in the show’s history, it would have seemed impossible for romantic chemistry to have somehow developed between them. But, it’s 2016. Billy and Phyllis, along with the actors who portray them, have changed.
Thompson and Tognoni have been given a different charge by their bosses at ‘The Young and the Restless’. And on that directive, both actors are developing a different fictional reality. Whether enough fans accept each character’s differences and the chemistry that’s been created between them remains debatable.

Jason Thompson’s Billy is a drag! Not the same fun and endearment exhibited by the 2 actors before him. Them you could sympathize with, not this Billy.
U are telling the truth, he is another waste of space
Even though I feel bad for Jack, I definitely feel like there is a strong connection between Billy and Phyllis. Their affair has been the most exciting story line on Y&R for a while now.
This is another fast forward affair with NO CHEMISTRY Billy n whisper Phyllis, it is sickening n it sucks. What is wrong with Gina’s voice that she is doing all this whispering? Is she sick or is she trying to be sexy? This Billy has chemistry with Hilary n some with Vicky thou we have to see him with everyone except whom we can tolerate, since we are stuck with him. Just when I feel things might improve we have to go until September before any of these stories will get an ending.

That is what am saying, he did have a 5 second scene so u could not really tell a lot. I haven’t seen to many scenes with Victoria, thou he has more chemistry with Vicky than Phyllis.

U could be right about Amelia H. we haven’t seen to many scenes with them so I can’t say. But I will disagree about this Billy n Phyllis. My opinion, glad we can agree to disagree.
Miller and Stafford are GONE and that’s THEIR CHOICE.
