‘The Young and The Restless’ News: Why Y&R Needs More Of Esther Valentine

“The Young and the Restless,” viewers were treated with a special visit from maid-turned-millionaire Esther Valentine (Kate Linder) during the holidays, but it wasn’t enough! Fans have come to expect Esther on the canvas every Halloween when she commemorates the death of her granddaughter Delia (Sophie Pollono), but her recent appearance reminded us of why we just can’t get enough of the loveable eccentric.

Since her inception as Katherine Chancellor’s (Jeanne Cooper) maid in the early 80,’s Esther has served up some well-needed comic relief amidst all the angst, and she’s often the only conscience her unstable daughter Chloe Mitchell (Elizabeth Hendrickson) seems to have.

Right now Chloe is in a front burner, “who’s the daddy?” storyline. More than ever, Chloe could use Esther’s maternal guidance as she strives to mother her own daughter, Bella (May Kinder).

Chloe wants to do right by Bella, but too often she uses shady methods to get what she wants: like having a baby! No one except Chloe knows who Bella’s father is, and spoilers tease that when the paternity is revealed, Chloe is going to need a shoulder to cry on. Who better than her ever-patient, tolerant, and forgiving mother, Esther?

Esther herself has been a bit lost since the death of her long-time employer and friend, Katherine. She was the comedic foil between frenemies Katherine and Jill Abbott (Jess Walton) and now the mansion has no one to run it. If Esther stepped back into her housekeeping role she could be the conscience, and comedienne, that its current resident, the wayward Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) so desperately needs!

Can’t you just see Esther rolling her eyeballs and cracking jokes as womanizing Billy indulges in his partying ways?

But more than that, Esther is an established, veteran character who provides a balance and perspective that longtime viewers appreciate alongside against a cast full of more, ahem, young and restless characters!
