‘The Young and the Restless’ News: Steve Burton Wraps Y&R Run – Final Dylan Scenes Airing Late January

'The Young and the Restless' News: Steve Burton Wraps Y&R Run – Final Dylan Scenes Airing Late JanuarySteve Burton (Dylan) filmed his final scenes on the set of ‘The Young and the Restless’ on December 10. Per Burton’s Twitter account, the cast and crew then provided a festive sendoff party. The veteran actor’s three-year run on Y&R followed a 21-year career at ABC’s ‘General Hospital‘ where he famously portrayed Jason ‘Stone Cold’ Morgan.

Deep soap devotees also know that Burton’s first daytime role was on NBC’s ‘Days of Our Lives’ in 1988, when he played Harris Michaels.

It appeared obvious from the jump that Burton opted to join CBS’ top daytime steamer because doing so allowed him to play against type. Dylan McAvoy was a war hero who returned to the United States and initially suffered from PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). Dylan’s subsequent love story with Avery (Jessica Collins) quickly ingratiated him with the audience.

Eventually Burton’s Y&R character learned that Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and Paul (Doug Davidson) were his biological parents, which put Dylan into prime Genoa City real estate. McAvoy also became a police officer, which was a 180 degree contrast to the dark personality Morgan devolved into as time ticked in Port Charles.

During Burton’s final week of work at Y&R he announced a new business venture with fellow GH alum Derk Cheetwood. Their Hollywood Schooled venture offers aspiring actors an opportunity to receive free downloadable audio coaching lessons, along with other resources.

Fans have been speculating about Burton’s future plans since he announced his voluntary departure from the cast a few months ago. The amicable break also fueled measured conjecture about his character. Since Burton is leaving on good terms it’s possible that Dylan will return to Genoa City someday, or this character will be recast in the meantime.

Lauralee Bell’s (Christine) friendly comments via Twitter reaffirmed Burton’s positive reputation. Shown at a wrap party photo with Christian LeBlanc (Michael), Scott, Bell, Sean Carrigan (Ben) and Davidson, Bell’s comments read, “We love you Steve Burton! #yr #hurryback.” Obviously the actor was well-liked by his cast mates. Team chemistry is surely considered in Hollywood, as it is everywhere else, regarding rehire.

In response to a December 7 tweet about his departure Burton said, “Never say never is what I have learned.” His reply was followed by a smiley face. So the actor surely hasn’t ruled out a return to Y&R at some undetermined point.

Soap operas film scenes many weeks in advance of their air dates. Burton’s last scene as Dylan will be available toward the end of January 2017.
