‘The Young And The Restless’ News: Mal Young Officially Replaces Fired Jill Farren Phelps As ‘Y&R’ Executive Producer

‘The Young And The Restless’ spoilers confirm that it is official…Mal Young is replacing Jill Farren Phelps as executive producer at ‘Y&R.’  CBS soap fans have campaigned for JFP’s firing for years now, and late last night it was confirmed that the less than popular producer had been fired by the daytime drama.

Rumors were swirling last month that Mal Young was replacing Jill Farren Phelps as the soap’s executive producer, and Young seemingly confirmed the news on Twitter on June 8.  After the news broke that Phelps had been fired, Mal Young took to Twitter and shared this ominous message with ‘Y&R‘ fans, “Day 1.”  Obviously he was a little vague, but considering the timing, it is safe to assume that he was referring to “Day 1” of his new job.  Various reports have confirmed that Mal Young is the new EP.

‘Y&R’ star Jason Thompson congratulated Mal Young on Twitter and expressed his excitement about the change in regime.  The Billy Abbott portrayer tweeted, “I trust ya buddy.”

In January 2016 Mal Young was brought on to the ‘Y&R’ team as a supervising producer.  Young is well known among the soap powers that be, he worked on the famous British soap ‘Eastenders‘ for many years, and was praised for that show’s success.

So far it is unclear what this major switch in regime could mean for ‘The Young And The Restless.’  A lot of ‘Y&R’ fans were unhappy with current storylines, but Mal Young replacing Jill Farren Phelps does not mean that the soap’s storylines will change over night.  Obviously they need to wrap up the plots that they are working on right now before they take anything in a new direction.
