After weeks of speculation, ‘The Young and the Restless’ (YR) Justin Hartley [Adam Newman] is finally able to share the news that he has left ‘Y&R’ for the new NBC primetime show ‘This is Us.’
It really shouldn’t be a surprise to fans that saw the writing on the wall as soon as it was announced that Justin had accepted a starring role in the much-anticipated NBC drama which premieres on Tuesday, September 20. Justin released the information via his Facebook page late Friday, September 2. Justin will star as Kevin, an actor who is facing a crossroads in not only his career but in life.
In the Facebook post Justin Hartley revealed that he had kept quiet regarding his exit for weeks so as not to spoil any upcoming storylines. “Although I am saying goodbye to ‘Y&R,’ this is not a goodbye letter. I felt it was more important to write a thank you note.”
The actor, who assumed the role of Adam Newman in 2014, wants viewers to know, “each and every one of you helped make my time on the show enjoyable. I always loved hearing about how excited all of you were for certain characters, how disgusted you were with others, at times mine, or how we were able to help you escape from a hectic day.”
It may be the last ‘The Young and the Restless’ fans see of Adam unless TPTB plan to recast the adult Adam role for a third time, and bring him back from the dead again. This isn’t the last you’ll see of Justin Hartley.
The actor is no stranger to primetime having starred on the ABC dramas ‘Revenge’ [Patrick Osbourne] and ‘Mistresses’ [Scott Trotman] before joining the cast of ‘Y&R’.
Justin Hartley ended his post about leaving his role on ‘The Young and the Restless’ by saying, “I’ll see you beauties in a couple of weeks [on ‘this is Us’]! You can read Justin’s post regarding his ‘The Young and the Restless’ exit below or on the actor’s Facebook page.
“To the wonderful fans of Y&R,
After many weeks of having to keep quiet in order not to spoil storylines for all of you, the time has finally come that I’m able to write you this letter. Although I am saying goodbye to Y&R, this is not a goodbye letter. I felt it was more important to write a thank you note. Each and every one of you helped make my time on the show enjoyable. I always loved hearing about how excited all of you were for certain characters, how disgusted you were with others, at times even mine, or how we were able to help you escape from a hectic day. You are some of the most loyal and dedicated fans I’ve ever encountered. You are truly the heart of the show. It simply does not work without you. I wanted to thank you for that. Thank you for tuning in; thank you for letting me entertain you; thanks for entertaining me, and thank you for caring.
Although I’m leaving the show, you haven’t gotten rid of me. Hahaha…not so fast. I’m beyond thrilled and proud of my new series, This Is Us. We have a sensational cast and crew, wonderful writing and I would be honored to have you all tune in and watch. Here is a preview of what’s to come on This Is Us, premiering September 20th on NBC.
I’ll see you beauties in a couple of weeks!
Justin”
