Sean Carrigan and Michael LeBlanc zipped up and down the aisles that flanked the cavernous Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric Opera House in Baltimore, taking questions from swooning audience members. On stage were Melissa Ordway, Joshua Morrow, Eric Braden, and Melissa Claire Egan.

“Soap opera writers have the hardest job in the soap industry…let me correct that: in all of Hollywood,” said Eric Braeden, looking dapper in a jeans, a blazer, and a scarf guarding against the frigid weather outside! An audience member had asked the panel how much input the actors get into their own storylines. Morrow chimed in prior to Braden, saying that, as actors, they generally try to respect writer decisions and act what is written for them.
“The other day we shot 168 pages of dialogue in one day. On a primetime show it’s generally 12, on a movie set 2,” continued Braeden. Writers bear the responsibility of coming up with all that material, he said.
Audience members emitted audible gasps when Morrow offered, in reply to a question about what doing love scenes was like, for the actors to demonstrate! He played director to Ordway and Carrigan (on-screen husband and wife, Abby and Stitch), while Egan played a boom operator. Together the four showed how mechanical and painstaking a love scene is—quite opposite the spontaneity and passion that comes across our TV screens.
Braeden’s performance of classically “Victor” lines such as, “Get out of my office,” and “Everything I do is for my family!” elicited raucous laughter and applause from the crowd. And his merely uttering “Billy Boy Abbot” and “Jack Ass Abbot” brought the house down.

All four actors underscored that Y&R was a family. This was no more apparent than when Morrow spoke of the passing of Jeanne Cooper. His voice broke and he teared up as he recalled getting the news of her death on-set.
After the Q&A, fans lined up for the opportunity to get autographs from and pictures with the actors. Genoa City Live, the event planners, can be found on Facebook and Twitter and followed to find out about upcoming appearances and tours by the actors.
