Alyvia joined Dolly for the chorus of the song – “my angel I love you, I have and I will for as long as the flowers grow on Angel Hill. Now you sleep beneath them your little heart still and I’ll meet you in heaven if it be God’s will.”
As Dolly explained how the song came to be, Alyvia Alyn Lind sat quietly and listened. Because Dolly had such a large family with each child being born one right after the other Dolly’s mother will tell each child “this baby’s going to be yours.” That meant each Parton child needed to get up a little bit earlier than usual and make time to take care of their baby.
The baby Dolly’s mother was carrying was going to be nine-year-old Dolly’s baby. However, Dolly’s mama had a miscarriage and Dolly was deeply brokenhearted. Dolly wrote the song many years ago and it was used in the television movie ‘Coat of Many Colors.’
