‘The Young and the Restless’: Kevin Believes Mariah Used Him For Her New Job, Has She Gone Too Far?

Kevin (Greg Rikaart) values honesty on ‘The Young and the Restless’. He wasn’t always so upright, as viewers can attest. However, Mariah’s (Camryn Grimes) recent advisory about Natalie (Mara McCaffray) might not have been a pure ploy for information. But, it also wasn’t smart move on her part.

Mariah still has feelings for Kevin. However, Chloe’s (Elizabeth Hendrickson) return to Genoa City dashed hopes for ‘Keriah’ Part II. Yet, Kevin has expressed his desire to remain friends with Ms. Copeland. That’s why Mariah’s recent decision momentarily damaged trust between these confidants. Whether she intended to use Kevin as an information gatherer isn’t fully clear. But, Mariah’s underdeveloped relationship skills must always be taken into consideration, as her intentions may not have been as ‘Moustache-like’ as Kevin now believes.

Natalie took a position as Victor’s (Eric Braeden) assistant for reasons that remain unclear. Whether she believes Newman Enterprises is her best career option, or like Mariah, she still has feelings for Kevin and therefore wanted to remain in Genoa City isn’t yet apparent. It’s also possible that both, or neither are true, as McCaffray’s character is rather flighty.

With whatever Natalie’s goals are, Mariah claimed that she was worried about ‘Swizzle Stick’ and told Kevin as much. Having worked for the ‘Dark Knight’ herself, Mariah knows that any contracted position isn’t likely to end well for said Newman employee. However, after speaking with Ms. Soderberg outside of Victor’s office, Kevin learned that Mariah was working on a story for her new employer (GC Buzz) that centered upon the Swiss native, her hacking skills and questions about Newman Enterprises’ financial statements.

Kevin’s subsequent curt conversation with Mariah at Crimson Lights caught her by surprise. Clearly, this poor soul’s personal feelings for Kevin were intermingled with whatever business issues were implied. Hopefully, time will allow Kevin to see what Mariah’s overall emphasis was because she needs his friendship as much as he needs hers. And, as Kevin will learn at some point, Chloe has abused his trust far more than Mariah has, or likely ever will.
