‘The Young And The Restless’ Exclusive Interview: Alum Tracey Birdsall Dishes On New Movie ‘Dance Of The Blue Tattoo’

'The Young And The Restless' Interview: Alum Tracey Birdsall Dishes On New Movie 'Dance Of The Blue Tattoo'Tracey Birdsall of  The Young & The Restless fame has been cast in Dance of the Blue Tattoo, a science fiction film that combines the emotional intricacy of Eat Pray Love with a varsovienne, Sagan-esque subscript:

Mia Goldman (Birdsall), possessed by superior agility, strength and beauty, is driven by an incomprehensible, subconscious urge to travel south to the Yucatan. Surprised by a series of strange messages and disturbing events, she realizes a power greater than her own has changed her pleasure trip to heal from a nasty divorce into a dangerous, supernatural journey into the Mayan underworld and Fifth dimension.

Soap Opera Spy had the exclusive opportunity to chat to Tracey about her upcoming role.  Tracy scored a walk-on role on ‘Y&R back in 2012, as one of Tucker McCall’s pals – and since then her career has really taken off!

Congratulations on the casting! Why did you choose this film?

Thank you! I’m very excited for this one (as usual)…! I chose Dance of the Blue Tattoo for many reasons. The script is amazing (written by Matt Genarro), the Director and I are close friends and I admire him a lot (Del Weston), the character is someone that I would love to bring to life (Mia Goldman), and I read it 3 times straight when I couldn’t even get through a dozen other scripts! I love my character as she has huge emotional arcs, an amazing journey, and lots of action!

How is this character different from previous characters you’ve played?

Mia Goldman is a little more of a vulnerable character than I’m used to playing (although she’s still kickass). Although she is “chosen”, she doesn’t believe it throughout the film and the challenges are real to her. In so many of the films I do, the characters plight is more predictable, in Dance of the Blue Tattoo, we really don’t know what choices the characters will make until the end.

What will be the biggest challenges you’ll face during shooting?

There are always challenges in character development and the physical action, but that will all be worked out prior to shooting. It’s being shot on location – which is a real blessing. When you shoot on location, you can get into character and stay there rather than coming in and out. I adore that.

How do you “marry” the two contrasting archetypes – a divorced pleasure-seeking girl from New Jersey and a kick-ass extraterrestrial?

Funny question! I guess you’ll have to watch the movie to see the journey! It’s only a stretch if you don’t know the story. She’s actually a multi-dimensional character who is very real with abilities beyond what you would expect.

What makes you happy?

Life, the ocean, love, my family, and immersing myself in my work and my roles.

What inspires you to choose your roles?

The script, the character and journey, the team, and if I’m dying to live the life!

Who is your secret celebrity crush?

It’s a terrible answer to give you but I’m too focused to even think about it! I’m a really logical girl, so I am not tempted by status or physical attributes. I live in my world, not in an imaginary one.

Give us some dirty laundry!

Will it be folded, pressed, and returned?! I feel like Tom Jones

When is the film slated for release?

We shoot this coming summer, so I would anticipate a late 2017 release

Where can we watch it?

It should have a theatrical, [or at] least a limited theatrical release.
