When fans attend Universal Studios Hollywood theme park, “The Walking Dead” Attraction they will get the feeling of walking into where Season 6 ended. “The Walking Dead” experience is a continual progression of Universal’s annual Walking Dead Halloween Horror Nights mazes. The daytime attraction at the park will put a new spin on the Horror Nights experience. John Murdy, HHN mastermind and one of The Walking Dead’s, Greg Nicotero have worked together to create this out of the world experience for ‘The Walking Dead’ fans.
The new, Walking Dead Attraction, starts fans at the beginning of the series, season 1 episode, in the hospital, all the way through to the last episode of season 6. The goal is that people experiencing the attraction will have the same fears and anxieties that the characters feel when living these moments. For Universal to stay current with the AMC series, ‘The Walking Dead’, is the responsibility of Greg Nicotero. “A lot of that is my responsibility because these guys [at Universal] don’t have access to the scripts or to cuts. I can at least say, ‘There’s something coming up.’ At one point the Wolves featured very heavily in the attraction.”
At a presentation for the attraction, at “walker boot camp,” John Murdy stated, “When guests go to it July 4th when it opens, we want them to feel like it’s picking up right where the show left off. As designers, we have a dividing line that we’ve always had in our heads that in the future, wherever the show goes, if we want to make changes, we know where that lines is and what will change and what won’t.”
The ‘Walking Dead Attraction’ is going to include what Murdy described as “much higher level of special effects.” The attraction is located just inside Universal Studios’ main entry. Fans should expect to see some familiar walkers, all fans have a specific scene where one walker stood out above the others, such as the walker that pushed its face through Lori’s broken car window in season 2.
While walking through the attraction, fans should expect to find “Easter Eggs” from all six seasons. Murdy commented, “From an Easter egg perspective, we kind of went crazy. That’s because if you’re doing a scene in a hospital or prison and the environment’s trashed and there’s paper all over the ground and you’re looking down and there’s a newspaper or something, it should mean something. It should be real, it should reference real events and characters in the show, so everywhere you go in the attraction there are literally hundreds of Easter eggs that we’ve designed and hidden in the attraction. You’ll never find them all.”
That sounds like a challenge to find them all. The opening date of the “Walking Dead Attraction” is July 4th, at Universal Studios. Murdy and Nicotero have done their best to keep the attraction as realistic to the AMC series, ‘The Walking Dead.’ Will any of you be attending this event?
