‘The Bold And The Beautiful’ News: Obba Babatunde Shares Memories Of Working With David Bowie

‘The Bold and The Beautiful’ (B&B) fans appreciate Obba Babatunde as Julius, patriarch of the Avant clan and dad to Maya Avant [Karla Mosley] and Nicole Avant [Reign Edwards] plus secret daughter Sasha [Felisha Cooper], but his work with David Bowie showed a side of him (and more) most have not seen.

Legendary British musician David Bowie passed away on January 10 after a struggle with cancer. Most will remember his iconic songs of the 70s and 80s: China Girl, Fame, Space Oddity, Young Americans, and Let’s Dance were just a few of his big hits – he had so many.

And for those that remember when MTV actually played music videos – all the time 24 hours a day, in fact – you’ll recall that Bowie was an early innovator in the medium and had some incredible videos. And one of those – for his song Fashion – featured Obba Babatunde.

A few days after Bowie’s passing, Babatunde tweeted “#RIPDavidBowie a great Artist visionary and original thank u for the Honor to perform in your music vid #fashion”

The video is below – look at the one minute mark for Babatunde like you’ve never seen him before. That scene is from a dance studio on Broadway. For those who only know Babatunde from B&B, you’re used to him in a suit or a golf shirt, not a nipple revealing tank top and tights.

You have to admit, young Babatunde had it going on. You see him several more times in the video – with more clothes on – and he’s definitely got his groove on. And while this is a radically different video style than most are accustomed to these days but was spot on with the new wave trend back in the day.

Babatunde told CBS Soaps in Depth, “I got a chance to hang out with David Bowie during that time in the late ‘70s. I was a huge fan, and I have a great deal of respect for his artistry.” As a point of interest, Babatunde is a musician in his own right as well.
