“General Hospital” and “Days of Our Lives” ratings are down for both total viewers and women in the 18 to 49 demographic Soap Opera Network reports.
Note: Both ‘Y&R’ and ‘B&B’ did not air every day due to NCAA Basketball.
Days of Our Lives
The lone NBC soap opera has lost viewers for another week. Viewership was down across the board for the daytime drama. Compared to ratings from the week of March 7-11 ‘DOOL’ had 2,234,000 total viewers. This represents a loss of 60,000 total viewers. In the women 18-49 category “DAYS” continues to lose ground. This week the soap opera tied its all-time low with a total of 391,000 women 18-49 tuning out. This represents a loss of 34,000 in this demographic.
General Hospital
‘GH’ was preempted on Friday, March 11 for former first lady Nancy Reagan’s funeral which would account for the loss of viewers. There were no preemptions this week and the daytime drama still lost total viewers as well as the women in the 18-49 category. For the week of March 14-18 the total viewers were 2,848,000 watching ‘GH’ which means it lost 50,000 viewers. Losing 5,000 viewers in the women 18-49 demographic was another hit to the rating Soap Opera Network reports.
The Bold and the Beautiful
Preemption for NCAA Basketball may account for the lower ratings for ‘B&B’ for the week of March 14-18. Total viewers stands at 3,557,000 which represents a loss of 28,000. In the women 18-49 category the daytime drama lost 19,000 viewers which ties the soap’s all-time low for the third straight week.
The Young and the Restless
Again, preemption for NCAA Basketball may have affected the ratings for ‘Y&R’ which had 4,695,000 total viewers watching for the week of March 14-18. This represents a loss of 68,000 total viewers. In the women 18-49 demographic the CBS soap opera gained 4,000 viewers.
None of the soaps were preempted for the week of March 21-25. Hopefully the weekly ratings for all four soap operas will see an increase in both the total viewers and also in the women 18-49 category.
Daytime Emmy Nominations for 2016 were announced last week. This may help the ratings for all four soaps too as viewers tune in to see the nominees in action.
