It was exciting news when CMT and Lionsgate TV announced that ‘Nashville’ had been renewed for a fifth season. Fans, who launched an intense social media campaign to bring the show back when ABC abruptly cancelled it, will also be able to watch ‘Nashville’ on the streaming service Hulu the day after each episode airs.
While we wait for ‘Nashville’ to return – what 10 things don’t you know about the hit drama? Diehard fans probably know everything there is to know but let’s see if any of these 10 fun facts stump you.
#1 The record labels on the show are actually named for locations in and around the city of Nashville. For instance, Rayna Jayme’s [Connie Britton] Highway 65 label is so called for Interstate 65 that cuts right through the heart of the city. Edgehill Records represents a neighborhood and street near Music Row.
#2 When not filming ‘Nashville’ Jonathan Jackson [Avery Barkley] keeps busy in the recording studio or on tour with his Nashville-based band Enation. Jonathan has deep ties to Nashville – he co-owns Jack and Jameson’s Smokehouse is a barbecue joint and concert venue in Franklin, Tennessee. His partner is ‘The Young and the Restless’ star, and former ‘General Hospital’ co-star, Steve Burton.
#3 – Lionsgate TV, the company that produces ‘Nashville’ also produces the Netflix original series ‘Orange is the New Black’ and the E! Network show ‘The Royals.’
#4 – Bringing ‘Nashville’ back for a fifth season allows for the series to go into syndication which will bring in residuals and revenues for decades. The show’s production will keep 500 jobs in Tennessee and makes Music City an even more attractive tourist destination.
#5 – Show creator Callie Khouri wrote the screenplay for the 1991 big screen film ‘Thelma and Louise’ starring Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis. Callie also wrote the screenplays for ‘Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood’ and ‘Something to Talk About.’
#6 – Clare Bowen [Scarlett O’Connor] Tennessee accent is fake. She was born and raised on the South Coast of Australia. She has stared in several theater productions, most recently in the rock musical ‘Spring Awakening’ under the direction of Andrew Upton and Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett at the Sydney Theatre Company.
#7 – Hayden Panettiere [Juliette Barnes] began her career on television on soap operas. Hayden portrayed Sarah Roberts on ‘One Live to Live’ from 1994 until 1997. Hayden then moved on to ‘Guiding Light’ where she portrayed Lizzie Spaulding from 1998 until 2000. Hayden made the leap to primetime when she joined the cast of ‘Ally McBeal’ in 2002 as Maddie Harrington. The role that garnered Hayden her first primetime critical and commercial success was as Claire Bennett on Heroes from 2006 through 2010.
#8 – Charles Esten [Deacon Claybourne] may star in the hottest drama on television, but his roots are in comedy. Charles, known by his nickname Chip, was a regular on ‘Who’s Line Is It Anyway?’ from 1999 through 2005.
#9 – Every episode of the first season of ‘Nashville’, with the exception of the pilot, is named after a Hank Williams song. Look it up – you’ll find that episode too, ‘I Can’t Help It (If I’m Still in Love with You) all the way through the final episode of the first season – “I’ll Never Get Out of this World Alive” were all recorded by Hank Williams during his much too short and iconic career.
#10 – There is no voice doubles or auto-tune for the cast of ‘Nashville.’ All the actors sing their own songs. In fact, each actor also plays guitar, too.
