‘General Hospital’ News: Performer Of The Week – Laura Wright

In a week of rather lackluster performances, the one standout is Laura Wright. As Carly Corinthos, her ongoing battle on Sonny’s behalf for quality time with Avery, is just one of the many moments that made her so watchable this week. It’s hard to watch her take so much crap from Ava in her quest for extended baby-time. The mother in her is so evident as she sets aside her hatred of Ava for the good of the family, and we love her for not losing her temper and beating Ava to a pulp, even if we’d all pay extra to see that! Whether she’s navigating the minefield that is Morgan’s bi-polar condition, Sonny’s paralysis, or fighting for the very soul – it seems – of her BFF, Jason Morgan, Laura Wright always delivers. When it comes to family and friends, she is emotional, passionate, and always believable.

I have to say that I am enjoying this new Sam/Carly dynamic too. To see Carly championing a Jason/Sam reunion is taking some getting used to, but it’s fun watching them becoming something like… friends!

Enjoyable too is the Carly/Kiki connection. It would be so easy for Carly to make Kiki pay for being Ava’s daughter, and the Carly of old may have done just that, but the woman she is today has managed to not only forgive Kiki for the accident that left her stranded in a ditch overnight, but she’s given her a job, a purpose, and an ally. I have to say I do love watching Kiki leap to Carly’s defense in the fight for Avery.

Just for goofs and giggles, I’m going to throw a shout-out to both Roger Howarth (Franco) and Rebecca Herbst (Liz) too. I have to applaud any character that shares scenes with little Jake; a character that I am convinced was chipped out of a “Pet Sematary” on Cassadine Island.
