Storyline I’m Loving: Steffy and Wyatt falling in love on Bold and the Beautiful. Sure, it’s a little “musical beds,” i.e., pairing up of the same group of characters in different combos. But these two are so much more fun to watch than Wyatt (Darin Brooks) and Ivy (Ashleigh Brewer – human Ambien) and Liam (Scott Clifton) and Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood – opposites who don’t attract).
Best Acting: Jason Thompson on The Young and the Restless: How Thompson managed to make the beloved character of Billy Abbot his own in a few short weeks is beyond me. But he’s done it. Thompson’s Billy still contains the essence of the character. He’s still a spoiled but lovable ne’er-do-well who has positively flammable chemistry with Amelia Heinle (Victoria Newman). And yet he makes us forget the many actors to play Billy with their own stamp and equal levels of skill before him. And who is this Patrick Drake he portrayed on General Hospital that you speak of?
Best Line: Once again this week, I award this to the Days writing team. When asked by Roman (Josh Taylor) if what she really wanted was to allow Ava (Tamara Braun) to leave town, Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) didn’t miss a beat before replying, “What I really want is five minutes alone in a room with a baseball bat and that woman.” I almost fell out of my bed laughing.
Needs Improvement: GH’s #Julexis wedding episode. Before #Julexis fans get their torches and anti-Akbi chants ready to run me out of town, let me be clear about one thing: overall General Hospital’s much-anticipated #Julexis wedding episode should be nominated for a Best Writing Emmy for Shelley Altamn, Jean Passanante, and their team. But it contained one flaw, contrived action by a character. Why on Earth would someone involved in an arms deal gone horribly wrong hold an entire chapel full of wedding guests hostage, like Landon Dixon (Troy Ruptash) did? Why wouldn’t he instead quietly slither back underground from where he came to regroup and lick his wounds? If the whole point was so that Sonny (Maurice Benard) could leap out of his wheelchair and shock the whole town at once, that’s not story moving organically forward. It’s, well, contrived and thus beneath Passanante, Altman, et. al.
Looking Forward To: Quinn and Liam falling in love on Bold and the Beautiful. Instead of the hardened and whacked-out, Quinn, I’m once again watching the adorable and wide-eyed Lois Cerullo, Rena Sofer’s ex-General Hospital character. And Scott Clifton has truly shaken things up over at B&B with his portrayal of Liam as, instead of preachy and vanilla, innocently doting and actually capable of having fun—while still somehow being Liam! Fun and fresh! Love it, love it, love it! I am firmly Team #Quiam.
