‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: GH Opening Brings New Opportunities For Old Cast Members

Port Charles’ beloved General Hospital reopened for business this week, and with it General Hospital can get back to doing what it does best!

Was there ever any doubt that the hospital would be converted to condos? Not really since that would mean the show’s entire premise would have to change! Still, it was a relief to see the grand re-opening ceremony this week, complete with a larger-than-life sized picture of the incomparable Dr. Steve Hardy.

In a sweet storytelling twist, a new beginning for the hospital also meant second chances for several of the show’s characters. First up, Hayden Barnes (Rebecca Budig) is getting a new chance to make a first impression.

Hayden is the daughter of a disgraced financier who’s made lots of enemies since coming to town. But starting immediately, she’s been hired to work as the hospital’s financial manager. Will her efforts to rescue the hospital’s finances be enough to erase the selfish, piranha-like image that she’s cultivated thus far?

In another gesture of goodwill, Dr. Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) has been given a chance at redemption. There’s no denying that the Faison-loving doctor has committed some horrible acts. GH viewers have seen her journey from mad scientist, to Chief of Staff, to records room technician.

In spite of her darkness Dr. O is a funny, sympathetic character, so it was nice to see Monica (Leslie Charleston) extend her a helping hand.

It remains to be seen what heights the disgraced doctor might again reach, but she’s been asked to help with a couple of incoming patients, and that’s a start!

And then there’s Franco (Roger Howarth). Dr. O gave him some motherly advice about his turbulent love life, and it looked like he took it to heart. Will her wise words be what Franco needs to make a fresh start with Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst)?

It was a nice to see these characters react to the kindness shown to them. Kudos to TPTB for showering a little positivity amidst all the drama!
