General Hospital’s latest serial killer has been hiding in plain sight, in the guise of District Attorney, Paul Hornsby (Richard Burgi). At first, the murders looked so random, and there didn’t seem to be a connection, until Paul let it slip one day. He was murdering all these people as an act of vengeance for his daughter, Susan.
To fully explain the extent GH’s Paul went to, we need to look further back than we first expected. His first killing was the shooting of Kyle Sloane (Robb Derringer) in September 2015. Kyle was the man who had raped Paul’s young daughter, Susan. For a while there was not much movement, until the murders started happening in General Hospital. Patient after patient dying after being injected with derisofol.
GH fans thought of a few possible suspects, but when it was revealed that it was Paul, it threw most of us for a loop. It turns out that all the people Paul had killed at General Hospital were somehow involved when the rape happened. We don’t have all the details out yet, but it is believed that they were the reason the rape kit was botched, and why Kyle Sloane got away with what he did.
Now the question is this: Is Paul going to be able to claim “insanity” as his defense, or were his actions too calculated for an insanity plea?
General Hospital’s Paul seemed to have most things together and under control when he first started the killing spree. He was efficient and was able to keep the murder scenes clean of any of his DNA. The closer he was getting to the end of his “kill” list, the sloppier he became. Shoving Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) down the stairs wasn’t planned, and it was the first sign that his plan was falling apart.
When General Hospital’s Nurse Sabrina Santiago (Teresa Castillo) revived Dr. Monica Quartermaine (Leslie Charleson), after Paul injected her, you could see Paul was becoming unhinged; everything was going wrong. Paul killing Sabrina is where you can see he has completely lost his mind, and was no longer thinking as a rational man. Think about it, what rational thinking man, would attend the funeral of a young single mother he had just killed?

GH’s Paul going to visit his daughter, Susan with a birthday cake and a confession, proved beyond a reasonable doubt that he was no longer sane; so when he realized his ex-wife, Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) overheard his conversation, the only thing logical thing to do to him, was to kill her too. Ultimately, it came down to his children though.
When Paul had the needle to Tracy’s throat and GH’s PCPD Anna had her gun pointed at Paul, he ultimately chose his son Dillon (Robert Palmer Watkins). Dillon freed his mother and still managed to save his dad from killing himself. What the outcome of the trial will be, is anybody’s guess, but if you review all the facts, do you think Paul should be able to plea insanity or do you think he was fully aware of what he was doing and knew the consequences of his actions?
