‘General Hospital’ News: Performer Of The Week – Rebecca Herbst

Well wow! It was a busy week loaded with some great performances, wasn’t it? It’s hard to choose just one… but here goes!

Rebecca Herbst. Poor Liz. Love her or hate her, you have to admit that in the hands of Rebecca, Liz is incredibly believable as an angsty mess! Minus those “me me me” moments when she’s busily believing that the universe is punishing her via Jake for all the nonsense with Jason, she’s nailing it as a mother who’s one moment terrified that her son could be a killer in training, and swallowed up in cautious relief the next when she hears that Sam’s fall was genuinely an accident. Add to that having to deal with an insurance company that doesn’t take her seriously as a woman or a policy holder, and you can actually see her reaching that breaking point. Liz has no man, no home, no idea how to proceed with Jake’s mental issues, no one but Franco to guide her through that minefield, and nothing but fear, regret, confusion, and pain in her life these days.

It seems that Liz has finally come around to the truth that Jason was never hers to begin with, and that perhaps her deep and twisted obsession with him caused her to miss some rather glaring truths about her son. She is now paying for her mistakes in big and small ways, and we just know that she’s going to crack wide open eventually.

We trust that Rebecca will play it all perfectly!

A shout out to Lexi Ainsworth. I am not a fan of this character – never have been – but the whole “am I gay?” thing is intriguing. Bearing in mind that Krissy was once a boy-crazy teen who – if memory serves me correctly – was even married at one point, her obvious confusion and denials do make sense. Lexi is carrying this load rather well, although I wish she’d spend some of her off-time practicing some new expressions.
