‘General Hospital’ News: Performer Of The Week – Michael Easton

Welcome back Michael Easton!

I have to admit that when I heard Easton was coming back yet again, I did an eye-roll. I’ve lost actual count of the number of characters he’s played over the years, but I’m going to guess this is number 4, although it could even be 5. Regardless, I wasn’t looking forward to yet another Easton character that tends to feel like the one before.

I am, so far, liking Hamilton Finn. In the few scenes he had this week, I found him to be delightfully quirky and likable. Fast-talking, self-assured, and confident in his diagnosis, he’s a great addition to the hospital setting. Outside the hospital, he seems just as confident and self-assured, even though something in his back-story requires him to share space with a “service lizard”. He’s amusing in a very dry, very unassuming way. I find that a refreshing change. I’m also liking that he tends to look at the person he’s interacting with instead of looking past them, as Clay often did.

His scenes with various characters throughout the week have been more than interesting. From his moments with Liz and the discussion on the care and feeding of “Roxy”, to that wonderful scene of him in the hotel with Carly, we’re getting small glimpses of the kind of character he’s playing this time out, even if we have no clue yet exactly who he is or why he’s decided to put down some temporary roots in Port Chuck. (Speculation says he might actually be a Cassadine but I have my doubts. Time will tell.)

Meantime, it’s nice to see Easton back in a role that is such a departure from the distant and smug Silas Clay. The resemblance may be uncanny but the personalities are worlds apart! In a week of mostly same old, rehash, yada yada yada, Easton stood out. I’m actually looking forward to seeing where this character goes.

A shout out to the lovely Finola Hughes for her performances this week! Her growing paranoia around Griffin’s identity and motives have caused her to be rather Jekyll and Hyde-ish with him, and while he seems like a gentle soul preaching forgiveness and such, I think Anna’s instincts about him are correct. His motives are indeed suspect.

Until next week!
