‘General Hospital’ News: Performer Of The Week – Jane Elliot

'General Hospital' News: Performer Of The Week – Jane ElliotIt was a short week due to the funeral coverage of Nancy Reagan on Friday. Kudos to ABC for changing the schedule to accommodate this event.

That said, all the drama we were expecting on Friday has now been pushed to Monday, and with it, some performances that may have been contenders for this week’s column. Not that I think anybody would have upended my front-runner choice, but I was keeping an open mind.

So, let’s get to it!

The always brilliant, always fierce, Jane Elliot gets the spotlight this week. Playing Tracy Quartermaine cannot be easy these days but Jane sure makes it look like it is. Seizures, mental disconnects, terror, anger, restrained sadness, tough, in control, out of control, a victim, forgetful, sentimental… Jane brought it all this week in a series of believable scenes that remind us why she is still a fan favourite decades after she assumed the role. True to form, even though she is dealing with a potential cancer diagnosis, she has not forgotten that her end game is getting ELQ back.

How much do we hate Dr. Mays? How much do we wish that she’d fire this House-like – but without the “charm” – character and hand her well-being over to the new cutie in scrubs, Dr. Griffin Munro (Matt Cohen)? We know he holds the key to her wellness but no one ever lets that poor doc finish a sentence! Though this storyline feels a little draggy at times, it’s hard to complain about it when we get to watch Jane Elliot play it out.

Let’s play a game this week. We’ll call it, “What’s Happening Inside Tracy’s Head”. Your job is to diagnose Tracy. Tell me what you think is going on. What – if not cancer – is her real issue?

Ready? Set. Go!

Until next week!
