What a week! We’re ramping up for May sweeps and it’s promising to be a good time!
Finola Hughes gets all the love this week. She turned in an incredible series of performances! Anna with super creepy Paul, even creepier Carlos, weirdly jealous Jordan, always startled looking Andre, flip-floppy Griffin, and sleazy Scott… pick your favourite. She did an incredible job of bringing all the emotions, frustrations, disgust, fear, uncertainty, quietude, rage, and concern into play this week. It was exhausting watching her deal with all of it, but it served as a fabulous reminder that she can carry the load! Awesome job, Fin!
Though I loved her scenes with all of them this week, I have to admit that my favourite moments were the scenes with Carlos. It was nice to see Anna finally confront the man that killed Duke. Watching them trade “punches” was immensely entertaining and really very satisfying. We already know that Carlos has a vulnerable spot; Sabrina and the baby, and it showed every time she hit him there. I think that Carlos understands that there’s no way out of this for him but Anna’s reminders of WHO he’s going to lose hit harder than the WHAT. I tried to feel just a little sorry for him but I couldn’t make that happen.
Second favourite moments: Anna ratting out Paul. She had nothing to lose and she went for it! Applause! Even if it sort of backfired, the truth is now out there. Later, his jail cell confession felt contrived and sounded all kinds of ridiculous in light of all the crap between them, and it made me happy to see Anna react to it in just that way.

It was a good week to be Finola!
And finally, just because… I loved stupid-drunk Nina! It was fun watching her channel her inner seductress in such a truly sloppy, slightly disturbing kind of way, but sober Nina annoyed the crap out of me. Her ridiculous tirade against Franco’s “gift” was not fun to watch. Although I see the point she’s trying to make, I wish she had taken just a moment to think about where Franco is coming from. He’s been nothing but honest with her about the baby thing, and even though offering her something to nurture may have been a bit short-sighted, it came from a place from love.
Listening to her rant on and on about how she was ready to set aside her disappointment to be with him, to love him, rang rather hollow after the sloppy-drunk stuff with Dillon the night before. I think the writers should just break those two up and be done with it. They’ve become tedious.
But the puppy was adorable!
Until next week…
