‘General Hospital’ News: Rick Springfield’s Shares Sad News With His Fans

There is sad news to report today, Rick Springfield’s (Dr. Noah Drake, General Hospital) beloved mother Eileen Louise Springfield, has passed away.

Rick posted the sad news to his Facebook page, reporting that his mother passed away December 21 in his home country of Australia.

“My Mummy in Australia has passed away. Dec 21st, 2016. She died while bringing in her washing from the clothes line. Sat on her walker and passed facing the blue spruce that my Dad planted in the backyard,” read his post.

The actor noted that his mother was an ardent animal lover, and had rescued many dogs during her lifetime. He asked that anyone who wishes to honor and remember his mother do so by donating to the Linda Blair Worldheart Foundation at, http://www.lindablairworldheart.org/donate/

“General Hospital,” fans will remember Springfield as the hunky doctor-by-day-rockstar-by-night sensation who first appeared onscreen in the early 80’s. His portrayal of Dr. Noah Drake was wildly popular, and he romanced many a lady while in Port Charles.

In 1981 the Australian scored a Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance for his number one hit, “Jessie’s Girl.” Springfield performed the catchy tune many, many times on GH, much to the delight of hardcore fans.

He returned to his iconic soap role from 2005 to 2008, and made an appearance in 2012. Springfield was one of many veterans who was invited to return to GH in 2013 when the show marked its 50th anniversary.

More recent GH fans recognize the Drake moniker as belonging to Dr. Patrick Drake (Jason Thompson), Noah’s son. Like his father, Patrick entered the venerable institution as a renowned surgeon with a roving eye.

Over time Patrick was tamed by, and married, fellow doctor Robin Scorpio (Kimberly McCullough). Fans dubbed the popular couple, “Scrubs,” and they now live off camera with their daughter Emma (Brooklyn Rae Silzer) in San Francisco.

Springfield’s autobiography, “Late, Late at Night: A Memoir,” was released in 2010. His most recent acting credits include a star turn on, “Supernatural.”
