“Days of Our Lives” Tamara Braun [Ava Vitali] recently sat down and talked with Lilly Melgar [Janice Ramos, “The Bay,” ex-Lily Corinthos, “GH”] and Martha Madison [Miranda Winterthorne, “Winterthorne, Belle Black, “DOOL”] on the web talk show Soap Box. Braun spoke with the co-hosts about her time on “All My Children” and the first lesbian wedding on daytime television.
“All My Children” had many groundbreaking storylines throughout the ABC daytime drama’s nearly 42 year run. One of these storylines involved Eden Riegel [Bianca Montgomery] and Tamara Braun [Reese Williams] same-sex relationship and marriage.
Tamara co-starred with Lily Melgar on “General Hospital” and now co-stars on “Days of Our Lives” with Martha Madison. Tamara opened up with her friends on their TradioV talk show about what it was like to be involved with the first lesbian wedding on daytime television. Tamara reminded Lilly and Martha that it was exactly seven years ago on Valentine’s Day.
Melgar asked Tamara what it was like to play a lesbian and Braun replied, “It was amazing. I thought. [TPTB] called, they asked, they said that they wanted to do this. They thought of me, would I be interested. And I was like, ‘Absolutely! I would love to go and be part of history.”
Another question Melgar had for Tamara was if portraying a lesbian was awkward at first. Braun told the Soap Box co-hosts it wasn’t odd or weird. The actress compared having an onscreen lover of the same sex to having one of the opposite sex. According to Braun, “It’s really no different. You work with all kinds of people. You have to pretend to be in love with them. It wasn’t a big deal. You just go and this is the job.”
The role of Reese Williams on “AMC” was very important to Tamara Braun. For the actress is was all about supporting love no matter in which form you find it, as well as opening peoples’ hearts and minds to something in a medium that touches so many people.
