‘Days Of Our Lives’ Poll: Could Rebecca Herbst Pull Off The Part Of Abigail Deveraux? Vote!

Almost immediately after news broke on websites like “Daytime Confidential” and “Soap Opera Network” that contract negotiations between General Hospital (GH) execs and Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth Webber) had reached a standstill, and that the actress might exit the show, so did another piece of shocking news. Was Days of Our Lives (Days) vying for a chance to grab the actress to play the role of Abigail Deveraux (soon to be DiMera), currently portrayed by a soon-to-exit Kate Mansi, whose imminent departure took aback fans?

Viewers of both shows and fans of both actresses, along with online pundits, continue to ask, “Could Rebecca Herbst, older than Kate Mansi, play the role of Abby? Could Days fans buy it?” Elizabeth Webber is also older than Abby Deveraux.

In her 19 years on the show, Elizabeth/Herbst’s legion of borderline-obsessed fans have often remarked that she looks to have barely aged. Show writers even put in cheeky references to it in scripts, such as when Dr. Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) annoyingly referred to her as having “porcelain skin.” Her delicate features, and taut body, not to mention her masterful acting range, make it altogether plausible that she would be able to pull off playing Abby Deveraux. Elizabeth Webber is 33, while Herbst is 38.

But, Abby/Mansi fans wonder if Herbst would be believable in the role of Abby. Mansi, 27, is younger than Herbst. And Abby, 24, is younger in both chronological age and life experience than Elizabeth Webber. Abby has just begun venturing out on her own, having her first child and moving out of her mother’s home. Prior to that she made the classic youngster bad decisions, like having sex with Sami Brady’s boyfriend in a shower! Mansi too plays the role of a young woman coming of age with great skill, her wide, often tear-filled eyes in contrast to her resolute, empowered decision-making, be the latter good or bad.
