“Days of Our Lives” fans have been blowing up social media with comments on DOOL’s latest controversial storyline. The fact that Chase (Jonathon McClendon) raped Ciara (Vivian Jovanni) is bad enough, but did he really have to do it in the sacred Horton living room?! That question has been on everyone’s mind since the horrific encounter.
The Horton house holds a special place in the hearts of most “Days” viewers. We’ve seen lots of warm moments in that living room, including the annual tree-trimming festivities. It’s a cozy spot that helps us all feel connected to the couple that started it all, Tom (Macdonald Carey) and Alice (Frances Reid).
Of course, there have also been some not-so-warm moments that went down at the Horton residence. This is a daytime drama after all. Still, many DOOL watchers thought it was a bit much to have Chase rape Ciara right on Gram’s sofa.
It’s somewhat surprising that “Days of Our Lives” chose to let this play out in such a beloved locale. It could’ve easily happened in a hotel room instead. However, maybe they were going for something symbolic. Chase robbed Ciara of her innocence in a place where she would normally feel safe and secure.
That kind of ties in with how Ciara felt about Chase as well. He’s her stepbrother and she thought of him as a friend. While they may have had issues over the last few weeks, Ciara still cared about Chase. Their trust had been broken thanks to how Chase treated Theo (Kyler Pettis), but Ciara never really viewed him as a threat.
Unfortunately, Chase changed everything with his appalling decision. Ciara will never be the same. “Days of Our Lives” fans saw how Ciara was looking at that couch. She probably won’t be able to sit on it again without thinking about what she went through. It will forever remind Ciara of the brutality she endured.
Like it or not, the Horton house has a black mark on its record now. Nevertheless, drama moves quickly on the NBC soap. Before you know it, we’ll all be watching the Hortons decorate the Christmas tree like we always do. It’s just a shame that we’ll also remember what Chase did in that room.
So “Days” fans, what are your feelings on this? Is the Horton living room tainted forever or will you just try to block it out once this storyline is over?
