Deadline is reporting, “The pickup, which I hear may include an option for an additional year, keeps NBC in the daytime soap game as Days is the last remaining afternoon drama on its schedule.” Around contract negotiation times, fans always grow concerned about the fate of the NBC soap opera, after all the ratings aren’t always too stellar and are much lower than the other daytime dramas, but recently the soap saw a huge rise – and even brought in the most viewers they have seen in two years during the tragic death of Shawn Christian’s character Dr. Daniel Jonas.
SONY’s Jennifer Salke recently raved about ‘Days Of Our Lives’ performance and ratings – and reassured fans that the network was optimistic about a renewal. However, her statements seemed to be overshadowed by recent reports that the writers at ‘DOOL‘ were told to stop writing, and that the network wanted them to return to a more traditional production schedule. Now, we can all sleep well tonight – knowing that ‘Days Of Our Lives‘ isn’t going anywhere, at least for another season.
Meanwhile according to Soap Fans United, “DOOL to shut down in March for tighter broadcasting schedule at the request of NBC !!”
