‘Days of Our Lives’ News: Camila Banus Reveals How Hurtful Body Shaming Can Really Be

'Days of Our Lives' (DOOL) Camila Banus Reveals How Hurtful Body Shaming Can Really Be‘Days of Our Lives’ (DOOL) Camila Banus, who portrays Gabi Hernandez has shared on social media that body shaming an actor or actress could do far more damage than a person can realize. There have been many times through the year where actresses or actors have faced criticism about one of their features, usually its about them either weighing too much, or being too thin; both of which can be very hurtful when fans tend to forget that behind these characters are real people, and its their looks you are talking about.

I have insecurities. I'm sure everyone does. One big part of the life I have lived has had a focus on my ears and how much I don't necessarily "like the way they look" whatever that means. I really hated a part of body so much I wanted surgery, so at 15 I had them pinned back. Simple surgery, was awake the whole time. Even years after the surgery I was still not confident having them exposed. I would try to hid them as much as possible. It wasn't till I started changing my outlook on them, till I started loving my ears that I was able to fully be me. CAMILA CONCEPCION BANUS. Yes my ears stick out! But they are part of what makes me ME and they make me beautiful. #scars #learning #growing #me #inside #ilovemyears #me #camila #always Side note: How cute is Arianna !!! @4sweets11 #adorable #mood #sharing #justsaying #instamood #instagood

DOOL’s Camila Banus admits that she has insecurities like everyone else, but being in the public eye has made her more conscious about it. She is talking about her ears, and at the age of fifteen, she decided to have a simple surgery to pin them back, so they weren’t so prominent. She went through a long phase of hating them; could you imagine what it feels like to hate a part of your body?

Years after the surgery, Camila says she still hated her ears and didn’t have a lot of confidence in herself. It wasn’t until she accepted and loved her own ears that she was able to fully be herself and stand proud. She jokes about them sticking out but they are a part of her and they are a part of what makes her beautiful.

She makes a valid point and fans need to acknowledge that words can hurt. At the end of the day, people need to know that characters are only that: characters!! This is a great lesson in learning to accept what is unique and different; making fun of someone’s looks is not acceptable and just because people may not like someone’s imperfections, it doesn’t mean they are not perfect! Thank you Camila Banus for being strong enough to share you story.
