“DAYS” executive producer Ken Corday is setting the record straight. In the most recent issue of Soap Opera Digest Corday shared how the decision was made to make the lightening quick change from Jason Cook to Brandon Beemer in the role of Shawn.
Every effort was made to accommodate Jason Cook’s contract requests, and keep the integrity of the Shawn/Belle/Phillip in place. But, that wasn’t meant to be. Corday divulged that he wanted, more than anything, to sign Jason to a full-time contract following the actor’s return for “DAYS” 50th anniversary storylines and celebrations. However, Jason’s desire is to pursue television and movie projects outside the daytime drama led to the breakdown in contract negotiations.
Ken Corday revealed that all the way around everyone was disappointed that Cook decided not to return, but as fate would have it Brandon Beemer was available. If not for that bit of luck Corday says it would have been impossible to continue the storyline involving Shawn, Belle [Martha Madison] and Phillip [John Paul Lavoisier]. Look for Nadia Bjorlin’s to return as Chloe Lane. Viewers may see Chloe for only a short time at first. But rest assured Chloe Lane will be back in Salem to stir things up in early 2016 – probably in the spring.
