BREAKING – The Young and the Restless star, Victoria Rowell, is SUING CBS and Sony! Here are the details…
Rowell portrayed the fan-favorite character Drucilla Winters on YR. She is a strong supporter of the Advocacy for Employment of African-Americans on the Daytime Drama. During her career, she has made both “public and private complaints regarding the lack of diversity in front of and behind the camera on the show” according to news outlets.
In 1997, she left the show citing “years of racial discrimination,” which are mentioned in the lawsuit. In 2010, she attempted to return to The Young and the Restless or The Bold and the Beautiful. Neither show would re-hire her. She claims that Sony and at Bell-Phillip Television Production Inc. have refused thanks CBS’s CEO pulling strings, refusing her return.
Rowell believes her declined re-employment is a “retaliation for Rowell’s public advocacy to increase the presence of African-Americans in daytime soap operas in general and on “The Young and the Restless” in particular.”
The suit goes stating, “The defendants have rejected her even though African American women, who comprise a huge percentage of the viewership for “The Young and the Restless” and for daytime soap operas in general, have clamored for Rowell’s return and rejected all of the defendants’ efforts to replace her on the show over the years.”
Egads. This is going to be one interesting (or messy) case!
