Weekly Soap Ratings November 16 – 20: No Winners This Week – ‘DOOL’, ‘GH’, ‘B&B’, ‘Y&R’ All Lose Viewers

Weekly Soap Ratings November 16 - 20: No Winners This Week - 'DOOL', 'GH', 'B&B', 'Y&R' All Lose ViewersSoap Opera Network released the newest soap ratings for the week of November 16-20. All four soaps – “General Hospital,” “B&B,” “The Young and the Restless,” and “Days of our Lives”- lost viewers across the board. There were no winners this week, and according to Michael Fairman, only losers. Read below to find out how your favorite show did for the week.

The Young and the Restless

“The Young and the Restless” lost 123,000 viewers this week, and 162,000 since last year. In the key demo of 18-34, “Y&R” gained 11,000 viewers and over 10,000 since last year. If there was a winner this week, that would be the deciding factor as no other soap had any gains in any demographic this week. Even factoring in the impending holiday during the week of Nov. 16-20, the CBS daytime drama managed to rake in almost five million viewers per day.

B&B

“B&B” lost HUGE this week in their ratings. Fans are pretty upset with the way the show is going. Not much is happening and one of the biggest storylines is borderline incestuous.  “B&B” lost a staggering 184,000 viewers this week and over 220,000 since last year. In the key demo of women 18-34, the show lost 38,000 viewers and 43,000 since last year. The soap managed to squeeze just over three million viewers per day, but it was a record low from the nearly four million viewers just a few weeks ago.

General Hospital

“General Hospital” is in a bad spot right now. Frank Valentini was given six months to increase the ratings or face cancelation. He must do something to save the long- running soap opera from a slow death. “GH” lost 176,000 viewers this week and 429,000 from last year. In the key demo of women 18-34, “GH” lost 29,000 viewers this week and 26,000 from last year. The total viewers per day clocked in at two and a half million.

Days of Our Lives

“Days” has stepped it up the last couple months, bringing the NBC daytime drama from the threat of being canceled to a frontrunner in the rating reports. Fans have enjoyed the 50-anniversary episode with so many previous stars returning for short stints on the show. On November 20, Bo Brady [Peter Reckell] died, sending fans over the edge. Many are still reeling from his disappointing death. “DOOL” ratings reflect the fan’s opinion of killing of an iconic role on the soap. “Days” lost 119,000 viewers this week, and just over 200,000 since last year. In the key demo of women 18-34, “Days” lost 55,000 this week, but gained 3,000 since last year. Each day, the soap opera had nearly three million people tune in each day to see what happened next in Salem.

How did your favorite soap opera do this week? Do you think “General Hospital” could be canceled this year?  What do you think the soap writers could do differently to make the show’s better?

Y&R has shoved Devon, Hillary, Neil, Lily, and Kane down our throats and up our butts for so long I’m sure that’s why it’s lost so many viewers. It’s ridiculous to take airtime and storylines from the GOOD actors and waste it on such crap. If the writing doesn’t end that train wreck more viewers will be lost!
