‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) Spoilers: Is Ian Falling In Love With Phyllis Or Trying To Gain Control?

“Young and the Restless” is gearing up for one heck of a sweep month. Ian Ward (Ray Wise) befriended Phyllis (Gina Tognoni), and he seems to have her completely fooled; she believes he is a lonely and sweet man. The storyline is unpredictable- which is a great change of pace- and fans are left wondering where they could be going with the storyline. Is it possible that Ian will fall in love with Phyllis? Alternatively, is it more likely she will become one of Ian’s mindless minions spouting to anyone that will listen that ‘Fred’ is a genuinely great guy? It seems like the latter would be the most likely scenario.

The show hasn’t revealed what Ian’s intentions are with Phyllis. She seems to trust him and enjoys spending time with him. Ian hooked her by revealing that his wife just passed away, and he missed her very much. Phyllis felt sorry for him and viewed him as a sad, grieving widower.

Ian could possibly fall in love with Phyllis. He seems to enjoy being with her. She shares important information her life with him, and he in return can have a people interaction. She told Jack (Peter Bergman) that she feels a connection with him. The only other person he has any conversation with is Adam (Justin Hartley), and they don’t appear to like each very well.

Another possibility is that Ian is using her to manipulate and gain mind control of her. Phyllis hasn’t been the strongest emotionally since returning from Georgia. First, she suffered terrible side effects from the coma drugs that Victor told the doctor to use. After that, she was raped repeatedly by a man Victor brought to Genoa City that claimed to be Jack. Now, she befriended the legendary villain, Ian Ward- the man who tried to put moves on her teenage daughter, Summer (Hunter King).

You almost have to ask yourself, where is the real Phyllis? She is not warm or fuzzy. She never has cared about friendship, cooking or other people’s feelings. Chuck Pratt has rewritten her personality. There is no clear pattern to where Ian and Phyllis’ friendship is headed. Fans, you decide; what plan does Ian have for his friendship with Phyllis?
