‘The Young And The Restless (Y&R) News: Shemar Moore Bicycles 100 Miles To Raise Money For MS Research

“The Young and the Restless” (Y&R) alum Shemar Moore (Malcom Winters) mother was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis a few years after Shemar had begun his professional acting career. That’s when he decided to use his celebrity to bring awareness to debilitating disease. And he has peddled 100 miles for MS research since 2006.

He never gives up the fight – and neither does his mother. Shemar posted a photo of himself and his mom on his Facebook page October 16 with the caption, “100 miles for Momma!!!! MS doesn’t quit my mom AND millions of other Beautiful people who DESERVE painless joy.” The weekend before Shemar Moore endured a lot of cramping and pain peddling 100 miles with the Bike MS Team to not only raise money for multiple sclerosis research but also to continue the fight to bring awareness to the disease.

Shemar Moore helped put together the MS Bike Team back in 2006 – it was then known as the MS 150 Bike Tour – when professional cyclist and “Criminal Minds” crew member approached him about joining forces. The “Criminal Minds” team grew to include 15 people – including co-stars Mandy Patinkin and Thomas Gibson. On October 21, 2006 Shemar and “Team Criminal Minds” raised more than $20,000 for MS research and programs.

The ride for MS continues – Shemar has ridden in the 100 mile trek every year since then. When asked if he could ride 100 miles for his mom the actor replied, “I’d run 100 miles for my mom!” And he did it again on October 10, 2015. “Pain yet pedaled my way to the finish line. By any means necessary!!! I will NEVER quit pedaling and FIGHTING until MS throws in the towel!!!!!”
