Two-time Daytime Emmy Award winning actress, Cady McClain, is speaking out about her departure from “The Young and the Restless.” Only a year after being casted as Kelly in 2014, we saw her character’s dead body on May 21, confirming that Cady McClain will be leaving the soap.
Cady McClain spoke with Soap Opera Digest about the departure and said, “After Chuck Pratt started, there was the normal reaction from the cast that a bunch of folks would probably get cut. It always happens when a new head writer comes on. You know, ‘out with the old, in with the new.’ It’s totally normal. I had a feeling, being that I wasn’t under contract there was a stronger chance I would be facing the chopping block.” Despite understanding, Cady McClain admitted, “For a while I didn’t know what I did wrong. I finally realized it really had nothing to do with me. I think it was just the way the story went when they sat down to write it.”
So when did Cady realize that she would not be returning? She says it was when her character Kelly hit Jack. “You just can’t hit Jack of all people, in the head with a baseball bat and get away with it!” She jokingly exclaimed
Cady says when she found out she asked Jill not to let the rest of the cast now. She wanted to do her best, not deal with the cast’s sympathy. “I wanted to focus on doing the best work I could do, and give 100 percent to every last performance, without that pressure or distraction.”
When she was ready to tell the cast she says that Kristoff’s response was the most important to her. He and I have a connection I can’t quite put a finger on…He ‘got’ exactly how I felt as an artist. His words were ‘Great talent stands the test of time..’”
Now that Cady McClain is leaving The Young and the Restless, what can we expect next for the actress? McClain stated that she is excited to venture more into the world of directing and producing and recently attended the SOHO International Film Festival in New York City with her second short film, The World of Albert Fuh. McClain also revealed that as of now she has no plans on returning to a soap opera, but she would if the situation was right.
McClain’s ended the interview by letting her fans know that she does not dislike soap operas despite recent rumors. She says, “Someone online suggested such a thing and I can’t imagine anything more ridiculous. People come up with the craziest ideas.”

I have loved watching Cady since she was on AMC, a concement actress she gives 110% every time. It would be foolish to kill her off Y & R, if so bring her on GH. Her book resonated with my own life. I had the pleasure of meeting her many years ago. She is beautiful inside & out. Good Luck Cady in whatever you pursue, I have no doubt it will be fantastic! Your fan in Olyphant, Pa
DO WHAT EVER IT TAKES TO KEEP VICTOR
It’s never good when someone loses a job. However this story line was a bit ridiculous. Y & R has always done a good job with story but this has gone too far. We know Victorvhas always been a tough character but this borders on insanity. Get over it already.
