“On my behalf, my counsel filed an amended complaint to strengthen and clarify my claims of retaliation and discrimination against Sony, CBS and another defendant. We intend to vigorously prosecute these claims,” Victoria told Soap Opera Digest.
Last month, a judge dismissed the case against Sony, stating that Victoria needed to submitted concrete evidence or burden of proof that she was discriminated against. Many felt she would drop the case and accept defeat. It looks like she decided to pursue the matter, and amended her case as the judge advised her.
Victoria stated she was fighting for diversity, not only in front of the cameras, but for the production and crew too. She noted that there is a huge need for more persons of color to be hired by all networks, but she will concentrate on the one she was previously employed by.
The lawsuit was launched after rumors that CBS was considering a Drucilla recast, which prompted Victoria to seek her former role. Apparently, according to the legal documents, she was told that there was no position available for her that she was qualified to fill.
Do you think Victoria Rowell is right in that the soap needs more persons of color both in front of the camera and behind-the-scenes? Do you think it is a fight she CAN win?
