‘The Young and the Restless’: Kristoff St. John Talks His Y&R Character, Favorite Storyline, Jeanne Cooper and More

Kristoff St. John is a fan favorite. He is a true class act and will always deliver his best acting in every single scene he is in. His character, Neil Winters, has experienced many heartaches in his career from losing his wife, Drucilla (Victoria Rowell) to finding out his daughter wasn’t his child, but biologically was his brother’s (Shemar Moore) daughter. He sat down with fans on Sept. 10 and answered a few of their questions.

First, the fans wanted to know how he felt about the way the writers are destroying Neil’s character. He said, “Are they really destroying his character? Sometimes you have to go through a truly dark time to see the light. Neil will make the situation right; he is not a coward. The end result is beautiful.” Another fan asked where he’d like to see his character go from here? He laughed and replied, “The only places I do not want to see Neil at is at the bottom of a cliff, in jail forever, or lost in the Amazon.” He noted that if you hate Neil right now, he was proud. He isn’t likable right now so the fact that everyone hates him means he is delivering great material.

He was asked what his favorite storyline was. He replied, “I loved courting Drucilla. She was so complex and working with her was easy for me. We understood each other. And, we still have a great connection. I also loved the scenes when I was drinking and spiraling out of control.” And, then another fan wanted to know what his all-time favorite scene was, he replied, “The scene when I found out Lily wasn’t my daughter was powerful and emotional. It remains my all-time favorite work, I have done on the show.” He noted the hardest storyline to portray was the months he was blind. He said, “It was hard, but I was up for the challenge.”

Kristoff St. John became emotional when someone asked about Jeanne Cooper. He told his fans, he loved her dearly, and she was missed every day on set. He said, “One fact most fans don’t know is she was quite the prankster. She was always laughing and never showed anyone she was hurting or sick.” The last question asked was if he could be any of character on the show, who would he wanted to be and why? He replied, “No question, Adam. He is Victor’s son. He is bad to the bone and very smart. And- he is featured in almost every episode.”
