‘The Young and the Restless’ Interview: Ray Wise Talks About Y&R Character Ian Ward’s Jail Release and Paragon Plans With Adam

Fans of “Young and the Restless” were shocked when Ian Ward (Ray Wise) appeared on the show last week. No one knew he was coming back so it was one heck of a surprise. No one suspected that Ian Ward was behind the Paragon Project. In fact, Jack (Peter Bergman) wasn’t even sure it was an actual threat or thing.

Oh, it is real alright; it was revealed that he was the mastermind of the Paragon Project- and his co-conspirator is none other than Victor’s presumed dead son, Adam Newman (Justin Hartley). Adam’s involvement did not come as a huge surprise; however, Ian’s involvement was a shock for many fans.

Ian Ward hoped if he could get rid of Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) he may have another shot with the love of his life, Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott). The only way he can make that a reality in his mind is to eliminate Victor from Nikki’s life. Ian has an (unhealthy) obsession with Nikki and truly believes if Victor is out of the way- he may have a chance with her.

In order to get the job done, he enlisted Gabriel Bingham, who is really Adam Newman, in the plot to see Newman Enterprise to meet its demise. He talked about the moment that Gabriel (Adam) approached him to help him bring Victor down, “Gabriel Bingham came to see me in jail and made me an attractive offer.” He revealed to TV Insider that he was released from jail legitimately- eliminating any escape from prison possibilities.

Ray Wise said that there is an explanation coming to the details of his release from jail. “It is all laid out faultlessly for the fans to understand and perfectly legitimate,” Wise said.

Ray Wise also spoke to TV Insider about Adam and his plans he said, “He and Adam will really have the whole town in turmoil. It will be major…monumental! The viewers are going to be quite surprised by the scope of the havoc Ian and Adam will raise.”

He explained that he really enjoyed portraying Ian Ward. He said he had hoped that they would call him to reprise the role. “The show gave me a great role with amazing lines. I feel so accomplished working for the best soap in the business,” Wise noted.

“Y&R” fans, are you surprised that Ian and Adam are behind the Paragon Project? Are you happy about Ray Wise’s return to “Young and the Restless”?
