‘The Young And The Restless’ Interview: Lauralee Bell Discusses Playing Christine Blair, Teases Upcoming Storyline

'The Young And The Restless' Interview: Lauralee Bell Discusses Playing Christine Blair, Teases Upcoming Storyline“The Young and the Restless” soap opera star, Lauralee Bell explains what it is like to portray one of the most hated characters on the CBS soap opera. Bell noted that she appreciates that Christine Blair is an iconic character, but finds it a hard pill to swallow when faced with the realization that her character is completely hated by many fans.

Lauralee Bell noted that working as an attorney is difficult for her. The legal jargon is often hard for her to get right the first time, which leads to multiple takes and hours of rehearsals. She explained a time recently during Adam’s [Justin Hartley] trial, she and Michael [Christian LeBlanc] were working hard all day trying to get the court room scenes just right. After the scene was wrapped up, the producers gave them a round of applause.  “I can get tripped up with all the legal jargon, being in a courtroom is not my favorite thing,” the actress told Soap Opera Digest.

Bell said that she often has a hard time with fans’ opinion of her portrayal of Christine. She explained she understands that fans have changed their opinion of the once beloved character because Christine has changed throughout the years; however, it is still difficult.

Lauralee teased that she has a storyline in the works that will soften her character up, and bring her fan base to support her once again. She had been asking the writer, Chuck Pratt, Jr. to give her a storyline that is personal and away from her line of work on the show.

One thing is certain; no matter what the storyline is, Bell brings her best acting to the scenes. She has made the fans despise her because that’s what the scenes and storylines suggested. “Y&R” fans would like to see the show soften up Christine’s character to make her much more likable?

I think fans can be cruel about who they hate. I guess they have so much of their feelings invested in the show.
I like to watch all of the characters and stories. I like them all.
I will say that the writing needs help. Some silly stuff been happening.

When her character is hated so much, it’s a testament to Ms. Bell’s great acting. I hope she doesn’t let the haters get her down. When someone can’t differentiate between the actress and the character she’s playing, it leads me to believe they are a little bit off their rocker. Keep up the good work, Lauralee.

Lifelong Y&R fan from Day 1 and I gotta say the writing on this show is DEPLORABLE as of late! Ever since Jill Farren Phelps joined and brought all her failed teens with her, the show has been turned into ScoobyDoo and/or CSI Genoa City … There is no Love in the afternoon anymore! There is enough CRAP going on in the world, we don’t need to tune in to Y&R for more aggravation and death! SOMEONE needs to explain to JFP and Chuckie that this is SUPPOSED to be an escape for fans! There is no thought to longevity–killing Delia (and Abbot & Newman) was atrociously stupid and inappropriate! The creative license these folks take in making up pasts that NEVER happened just to toss in yet another MURDER is ridiculous and don’t get me started on REPEATING STORYLINES! Allowing Billy Miller to walk because he wouldn’t be allowed to outside projects, yet practically EVERYONE else on the cast is doing outside projects is also a JFP faux pas! Y&R and G&H need to swap Billy and Steve back to their respective shows–since NEITHER fans base supports the swap that was made. Christine (Lauralee) has been turned into a heartless BITCH and her Father would not approve! And, at the end of the day, Y&R would never have seen the longevity it has without HER FATHER and HER MOTHER! Christine has always been “superior” and purer than the driven snow, but her cut-throat nastiness is not in character! CBS NEEDS TO FIRE JFP and CHUCKIE and ONLY hire some folks who have ACTUALLY WATCHED THIS SHOW SINCE THE BEGINNING … someone who knows HISTORY of characters …someone who notes the characters Birthdays, anniversaries, etc. AND, put one of those portraits of Katherine over the fireplace at Chancellor Manor for Goodness sake–My God the woman was BELOVED by the fans and STILL IS! CBS also needs to hire a person to consult on Historical issues related to each story that is written, so terrible errors and oversights aren’t made! During Katherine’s funeral, for example, EVERYONE should have had at the least an appearance — The Brooks girls, the Foster boys (to support Jill), Miguel the Newman butler, Dr. Casey Reed (Nikki’s sister is NEVER BACK WHEN SHE SHOULD LOGICALLY BE THERE!!!), so many people could have easily be brought to pay their respects “having read it in the GC Times???” How hard would that have been? It WAS the 40th anniversary year too! But no one associated with the show THINKS about the right thing to do … Hell, even Phillip wasn’t invited back! Seriously? Put your problems aside and DO WHAT IS RIGHT for the SHOW and the Fans! I can’t stand JFP speeches at the Emmy’s — the fans watch IN SPITE OF HER BEING THERE! SHE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SUCCESS OF THE SHOW! No matter what she does to kill it, WE WILL NOT LET HER TAKE THIS SHOW OFF THE AIR!

I must disagree with this article. First of all I dont hate Christine, but most importantly, her present character is a continuation of her past. Firstly, she went after Michael when he tried to rape her. She didn’t forgive him leading to the trial and part.of her character was to hold grudges for a long time. Eventually she and michael became friends, even law partners. But her and Paul’s nemesis was always phyliss, even before Jill Phelps. She was always an attorney that didn’t break the rules, and she is still good and moral in that department. Even the miscarriage storyline related to how she was hit in the car by phyliss… Christine will continue to be the barren yet fiercely independent woman of Paul’s. So to conclude, I believe the writers have done a good job in her historical development.
