“The Young and the Restless” hunks Steve Burton and Doug Davidson sat down with Soap Opera Digest to talk about their relationship on the soap opera, their real-life connection, and where they see the show going in the future. The dynamic duo made it clear that they have a wonderful relationship with each other, and love working so close together.
Steve Burton recalls when he first met Doug. He noted that everyone in the business knows Doug; he has the reputation of being a genuinely nice guy. Doug stated when they first started filming he wasn’t told that Steve Burton was coming to work for “Y&R.” All he knew about the script details was he was looking for a baby whom Nikki Newman [Melody Thomas Scott] gave away years ago.

Doug explained that originally, Dylan was supposed to be Ian Ward’s [Ray Wise] son. One day on the set, Jill Farren Phelps say Doug and Steve next to each other, and she got a brilliant idea. She told Doug, “You two look a lot alike. I got an idea.” Next thing they knew, it was written in the storyline that Dylan was not Ian’s son, but Paul’s. Both Paul and Steve loved the new twist and have been inseparable on camera ever since it came out.
Doug explained that it was difficult to develop a close relationship with Dylan as an adult. Right now, they have a rhythm to their relationship, and it works. He includes his father in his family life with Sharon [Sharon Case]. Steve noted above everything, Dylan considers Paul his best friend.
Doug and Steve confessed that no matter what happens with the show, they will be forever friends. Doug said they have had major family successes in the past two years together, and sharing their experiences had bonded them as friends for the rest of their lives.
Doug praised Steve by saying that he is a focused actor, and remarkably professional. He works until they tell us to cut, bringing his best in every scene. Steve noted that Doug was an amazing man who shows his heart to all he loves. He isn’t afraid to share emotions, which is refreshing to see in Hollywood.
In closing, Soap opera Digest asked Steve that when Doug is old and needs diapers if he would change his diaper. Steve laughed and noted he wouldn’t change it, but he would foot the bill for someone else to be on diaper duty.
