‘The Young And The Restless’ Iconic Love Triangles: Katherine, Jill, Phillip – Ashley, Victor, Nikki – And More!

“The Young and the Restless” has a long history of the characters being caught between two lovers. Abby Newman [Melissa Ordway], Ashley Abbott [Eileen Davidson], and Dr. Ben ‘Stitch’ Rayburn [Sean Carrigan] is not a new concept on the CBS soap opera. Soap Opera Spy examines the most legendary love triangles aired on “Y&R” over the years.

Katherine Chancellor [Jeanne Cooper] was happily married until Jill Foster [Jess Walton] fell in love with husband Phillip [John Considine] and promised him a better life. Katherine tried everything she could to bring her husband on her side; however, in the end, he married Jill on his death bed. Katherine didn’t handle her marriage ending well and drove off a cliff with Phillip in the car. She had plans to kill them both. Phillip survived the crash long enough to marry Jill. After his death, Jill gave birth to his only child, Philip Chancellor III.

Danny Romalotti [Michael Damian] was married to Christine Blair [Lauralee Blair. In New York while on tour, he met and slept with Phyllis Summers [Michelle Stafford] or so she said. He didn’t recall sleeping with her, but months later she showed up in Genoa City with a son in tow. She claimed the child was his son.  Eventually, Danny decided to leave her to be a father to his son. A few years later, it came out that Phyllis fixed the paternity test, and Danny was never the father.

Years ago, Victor [Eric Braeden] was in love with both Ashley Abbott and Nikki Newman [Melody Thomas Scott]. Victor and Nikki had a history together and were married, but Ashley was young and was completely intrigued with Victor. Victor made promises to leave Nikki for Ashley, but in the end, he stuck with Nikki. Ashley learned firsthand how strong the bond is between Nikki and Victor.

One of the longest and most legendary love triangles was between Sharon, Nick, and Phyllis. Sharon and Nick lost their teenage daughter, and Nick and Sharon, for some reason, could not grieve together. Nick turned to Phyllis, which was a slap in the face for Sharon. Phyllis’ son, Danny [Michael Graziadei] was suspected of being the driver who led to Cassie’s [Camryn Grimes] death. Later, Nick remembered that Cassie confessed to him that she was the driver. Nick spent years bouncing between Sharon and Phyllis until he moved on with Sage Warner [Kelly Sullivan] in early 2015.

There’s no telling how Stitch and Abby’s relationship will play out. It seems a given that Ashley will suffer a health setback, forcing Stitch to confront his true feelings for the handsome doctor. Do you think Stitch will go through with his New Year’s wedding to Abby?
