‘The Young And The Restless’ (Y&R) Interview: Sofia Pernas Dishes On Playing Marisa, And Love Interest Noah

Soap Opera Digest sat down with “The Young and the Restless” new comer, Sofia Pernas. She revealed how she celebrated when she first came on the show, the most challenging part about working on a soap, and who she clicks with on the set on a personal level. Not much is known about her character Marisa yet; but Sofia Pernas is quickly becoming a fan favorite.

When Sofia first found out she was cast on a reoccurring role on the show, her family was very excited for her. They took her out to eat, and felt good about her chances in scoring a contract in the future. It was hard for her at first to portray Marissa. She didn’t grow up watching soaps- or much TV in fact. She said, “In my home growing up my parent’s treated TV as a privilege for good behavior. So, when I got a choice I didn’t choose Y&R or anything like that.” She noted she first auditioned for a part on “General Hospital,” but really wanted the role of Marisa. She said about Marissa, “Wow! This girl has a lot of meat. I liked that she had a background and a dark past.”

The most challenging part about the role has been getting emotional. As a child, her father always told her to be tough, and not to show her feelings. She said she can hear her father telling her not to let people see you cry as she has to muster up tears in a scene. She said that in real life you’d never see her show her feelings so outward like Marisa. “It’s a soap though. It has to be emotional or it wouldn’t be interesting. As for the acting the part- I have no problem with that, “she said.

Soap Opera Digest asked her who has been her on-set friends. She noted that Sharon Case has been nice to her since day one. During the first weeks on the set, she shared a dressing room with her. She said she was very sweet and gave her great pointers. “Robert Adamson is my big bro and Lachlan Buchanan is my nerd friend. We are both HUGE ‘Lord of the Ring’ fans, “she said.
