Katherine Kelly Lang, the actress who plays Brooke on “The Bold & the Beautiful”, recently opened up to Soaps in Depth about being the ambassador for Amgen’s Breakaway From Cancer charity, and why this position holds a special place in her heart. Katherine wants fans to know that, for her, being a part of this awesome charity means much more to her than just bringing awareness to those affected by the disease.
Katherine Kelly Lang speaks with various media outlets throughout the year, on behalf of the charity, and Lang spoke with Soaps In Depth about her deep rooted connection with Amgen’s Breakaway From Cancer charity.
Lang says, “My dad, my grandpa and my grandma all died from colon cancer, so I’ve seen what people go through.” Katherine lost her father, Keith R. Wegeman, when she was only 13-years-old, and so from a very young age, Lang has seen first hand what cancer is capable of, and now she wants to do everything she can to raise awareness.
Katherine goes on to say, “This charity helps people from the moment of their diagnosis all the way through their surviving it. About 1,500 people die of cancer every day in the United States alone, and you can imagine what that number would be world wide.”
Amgen’s Breakaway From Cancer charity is so important to Katherine because she really appreciates what the charity offers for cancer patients. Katherine says, “When somebody’s diagnosed with cancer, they don’t always know where to turn, and it can be a really scary thing.”
Katherine Kelly Lang does not only speak on behalf of the charity though, Lang wants to be instrumental in raising money and awareness for the cause. At Amgen’s Tour of California pro cycling event, Katherine made sure to attend the event and partake in anyway she could. In addition, Lang has helped the organization raise money by designing two Breakaway FroM Cancer kaftans, as well as two leather wrap bracelets.
It is clear that Katherine wants to be a part of a great cause, and it is honorable that she is using her position to help raise money and awareness for this disease that affects so many. Lang says, “It’s a terrible disease, but our motto is, ‘Nobody should have to fight cancer alone.’”
