Soap Masterpieces November Throwbacks: Y&R’s Famous ‘Drucilla and Malcolm Winter’s Cold Medicine Confrontation’

“The Young and the Restless” throwback is here; day four of November celebrating soapy moments. Today’s throwback is when Drucilla Winters [Victoria Rowell] admits that her brother in law, Malcolm [Shemar Moore] took advantage of her. She admitted taking cold medicine, and it made her out of it. Dru acted as if he raped her, but it wasn’t that simple either.

Dru had a cold and took medicine to relieve her symptoms. She claimed she thought it was Neil [Kristoff St. John] that seduced her and due to the medicine, she wasn’t thinking clearly. She later had a confrontation with Malcolm about the incident, and it was clear; it was just a terrible misunderstanding.

Dru becomes pregnant from the encounter, and the doctor tells Dru that she is lucky to be expecting due to a medical condition. She considered abortion because she was terrified that Neil would find out he wasn’t her baby’s father. Malcolm and Dru decided to keep the encounter a secret, and agree to allow Neil to believe he was Lily’s [Christel Khalil] father.

Eventually, her marriage to Nail crumbled after she refused to become a housewife. She has the inspiration to be a top model. They divorce in 1995; she and Lily moved to France for a few years while she was modeling.

In 2002, Dru returned to Genoa City with a 14-year-old, Lily. She returned to reunite her with Neil. Lily had become an out of control teen, and she thought a father was just what the doctor ordered. Upon her return, Malcolm had recently recovered from a car accident that he was presumed dead, but by some miracle- he survived.

Malcolm demanded that Dru takes a paternity test so he’d know for sure if Lily was his daughter. He thought after all these years, he deserved to know. She protested but eventually had to give in to his demands. The test proved that Malcolm was her biological father. In 2006, Neil learned that Lily was his brother’s daughter, but all agreed that Neil was her father in every sense of the word.
