John P. Connell – ‘Secret Storm’ Writer and ‘Young Doctor Malone’ Star Dies at 91

John-p- ConnellA decorated World War II veteran, actor John P. Connell starred as Dr. David Malone on the NBC daytime drama “Young Dr. Malone” for five years. The actor passed away on September 10, 2015 at the age of 91. He and his wife Mila wrote over 100 scripts of the soap opera “Secret Storm.” In addition to his five years starring as Dr. David Malone on “Young Doctor Malone” Connell made appearances on “The Edge of Night,” “Love of Life,” and appeared on the daytime drama “Dark Shadows” as Lt. Dan Riley.

Connell – a native of Philadelphia – performed on Broadway and in movies – including “Three Days of the Condor. In the 1960s John Connell added commercial voice over work to his resume and became the spokesperson for Maxwell House, American Airlines, Xerox, Ford and Proctor & Gamble. He served on the National Board of Directors for the Screen Actors Guild for 13 years. Connell was a councilor of the Episcopal Actors Guild and founded the Shakespeare reading group known as the Come Hither Players.

The decorated WWII hero, respected actor and writer is survived by Mila – his wife of 63 years – daughter Kathy, son-in-law Daryl Anderson and granddaughter Tierney Anderson. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be sent to the Episcopal Actors Guild in John’s memory.

At press time no funeral arrangement information was available. We offer our sincere condolences to John Connell’s family. He brought great joy to thousands and thousands of fans over the years with both his acting and writing ability. We especially thank John P. Connell for his service to our country.
