‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Robert Palmer Watkins Dishes On His New Role As Dillon Quartermaine!

Dillon Quartermaine has returned to General Hospital and the actor stepping into the role has recently spoke with Michael Fairman Soaps giving all of the juicy details about Dillon’s return, working on such a legendary show, and much more. Actor Robert Palmer Watkins will be playing Dillon Quartermaine, the biological son of Tracy Quartermaine and Paul Hornsby.

The drama started quickly for Dillon as soon as he returned. Quartermaine returned to Port Charles after learning that his mother was still heavily involved with Luke Spencer, played by Anthony Geary, and in his very first scenes, Watkins was thrown into the drama with General Hospital veterans Elliot and Geary immediately. Since then, Watkins has become instrumental in the search for Lucky Spencer, and is quickly rising to become a fan favorite.

So what is it like being thrown into General Hospital in the middle of Anthony Geary’s goodbye? Robert Palmer Watkins tells Michael Fairman Soaps, “Oh, it was awesome! I just feel like the luckiest guy in the world to be able to come in on his last little stint, and to be able to be at his going away party. It’s just pretty epic.”

Speaking of Anthony Geary’s going away party, Robert Palmer Watkins revealed that emotions were flooding the room, and that everyone was just “happy to be a part of it.” Watkins says that you could tell that everyone respected Anthony, and that the goodbye party happened during a two hour lunch break. “It was beautiful, and people were pretty happy for Tony and of course, sad to see him go,” says Watkins. Robert revealed that he was happy to be a part of the party and admits that he felt privileged to see all of these General Hospital veterans share their experiences with him. “They did some slideshows, and a video. Tony was choked up, and more than anything you could tell that he loves General Hospital, and everybody in the room loves him. It made me so happy that I got to witness part of his journey.”

Watkins says that both Jane Elliot and Anthony Geary were extremely helpful and offered advice on the role. He says, of Elliot, “We’ve had a couple of heart-to-heart chats, and she told me I was doing a really good job. She has given me pointers just about memorizing, and to have fun with it, and so has Tony.” It must be amazing to step into General Hospital and immediately start learning from the bests.

What can fans expect of the upcoming events on General Hospital? Michael Fairman Soaps noted that Luke and Dillon were pretty close at one point, and now things are tense. When Michael asked what Robert thought of the situation, Robert replied, “Stepping into the role, I had several scenes between Dillon and Luke that were obviously pretty heated, but I think that mainly comes from what Luke has been up to for the last several years with Tracy…I am currently enjoying Dillon’s battle with Luke, and that was so much fun to have these blow outs with Luke, played by Tony! It was awesome, and I wasn’t complaining. (Laughs).”

Also, if fans are enjoying all of the tension between Luke and Dillon, Robert Palmer Watkins assured us that there will be more scenes between himself and Tony before Luke departs from General Hospital.

Lastly, Michael and Robert discussed the character of Dillon and whether or not Dillon is a good guy or a bad guy. Robert gave his take on the situation and said, “…I think Dillon is a good guy…I mean obviously he has his flaws’ everybody does, but I think as far as the soap world goes, I can say that Dillon is one of the better-intentioned characters.”

Now, since Dillon Quartermaine is a good guy, will that mean that his character is short lived? It is very clear that sometimes the better intentioned characters do not last as long because they do not spice up the story line. What do you think will happen with Dillon Quartermaine, and are you enjoying Robert Palmer Watkins stepping into that role? Let us know in the comments below.
