‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Sonny and Carly to Wed for Fourth Time – Who Will Wreck the Wedding?

A new ‘General Hospital’ spoiler reveals that Sonny Corinthos [Maurice Benard] and Carly Corinthos [Laura Wright] will tie the knot for a fourth time in September 2015. Sonny will be popping the question to Carly sometime soon – no doubt with a big fat diamond – and the recently reunited couple will look to finally get their happily ever after this time. But will this actually happen?

There are several forces that could come between Sonny and Carly to prevent their big day from happening. First we’ll take a quick look at their past three weddings then explore some ideas of who could wreck their nuptials. And, before you go crazy, yes, they technically had four weddings already because they renewed their vows once, but they were still LEGALLY married only three times before.

So, with that in mind, they are getting legally wed for the fourth time although it will be a fifth wedding ceremony. The first time Sonny and Carly got hitched, it was so she wouldn’t have to testify against him in court. They later fell in love and renewed their vows (yes this was a second ceremony, but they were already married). Then they got divorced and later got married for love, but that was torn apart by Carly lying to Sonny about him being Alexis Davis’ (Nancy Lee Grahn) baby daddy.

Then the third time they got legally hitched, it was again so Carly wouldn’t have to testify against him and she went into that quickie courthouse wedding crying after Jason Quartermaine [Steve Burton back then] told her she didn’t have to go through with it. But she did and it was a pretty pathetic fifth ceremony. But this time, it seems like the stars are aligned for them and maybe, just maybe, Sonny and Carly can finally marry for love as they did the in marriage number two/wedding number three.

But no Port Charles wedding is drama-free and Carly and Sonny may anticipate trouble from three different quarters (at least). Here’s what we’re thinking. They can expect issues from Ric Lansing [Rick Hearst], Franco [Roger Howarth] and maybe Brenda Barrett [Vanessa Marcil]. The most obvious choice to screw up the new Sonny and Carly nuptials is Ric and we all know why. Carly blew Ric up in front of everyone at the Nurse’s Ball when he tried to propose to Liz Webber [Rebecca Herbst].

Carly publicly humiliated Ric and told everyone that he had hired Hayden Barnes [Rebecca Budig] to pretend to be Jake Doe’s [Billy Miller] wife. That resulted in Liz dumping him and going straight into Jake’s arms. There is no way Ric is going to let Carly have a happy wedding. Of course, Ric won’t go straight at her since that would hack off his half-brother Sonny, but he will plot behind the scenes.

The person that may go directly at Sonny and Carly with an overt plan to ruin their happiness is Franco [Roger Howarth]. Why would Franco ever sit on his hands and let Sonny and Carly be happily married when Sonny cheating with Carly ruined Franco’s relationship with Carly? And remember the ph-so-disastrous Franco and Carly Halloween wedding that never was?

Franco blew up their nuptials with video of Carly cheating with Sonny and then blabbed to Michael Quartermaine [Chad Duell] that Sonny shot AJ and Carly was covering it up. It was epic – that was one of the best PC non-weddings of all times. Franco may even team up with Ric! While that seems unlikely right now since Franco wants Nina Clay [Michelle Stafford] away from Ric, their shared hatred of Carly may bring them together.

Finally, the one other big factor that could blow apart the Sonny and Carly nuptials 4.0 is Brenda. Sonny has made it clear that Brenda is his soul mate, but they’ve had issues with her not accepting his mob ties and then with him not wanting to be a father to her son. But the last time they parted ways, there was LOTS of love there. Brenda might blow into Port Charles just long enough to blow apart Sonny’s wedding.

This is exciting news – no doubt the proposal will be romantic – and the wedding itself is rumored to be in September, but may fall as late as November sweeps. Can’t wait to see how the proposal and wedding are revealed and then inevitably unravels. And you have to wonder – will Sonny and Carly even make it to the altar? And if they make it to the I do’s, how long will their marriage last?
