‘General Hospital’ Poll: Whose Kidney Does Josslyn Jacks Have? VOTE!

The death of little Jake Spencer [James Nigbor] back in 2011 was heartbreaking. As far as ‘General Hospital’ fans knew, Jake perished as a obinesult of a drunken hit and run by his grandfather Luke Spencer [Anthony Geary]. The only silver lining of the four year old’s tragic death was that a donation of his kidney to cousin Josslyn Jacks [Hannah Nordberg] saved her life.

But now that little Jake is back from the dead, there’s a nagging question of where Josslyn’s transplant kidney came from and how Jake’s death was faked. What we do know is that Helena Cassadine [Constance Towers] was ultimately responsible for Jake’s deathbed kidnapping and has kept the apparently healthy child on Cassadine Island off the coast of Greece the last many years.

It’s feasible, if outrageous, that Helena could have paid off GH doctors to fake Jake flatlining so his parents would believe he was dead. Remember Patrick Drake [Jason Thompson] and Robin Scorpio [Kimberly McCullough] were in the initial surgery and diagnosed him as having no brain waves. Surely Helen could not have bought them off. Maybe someone was tinkering with the equipment…

Jake could have been heavily drugged to make him appear lifeless and then spirited away. And up until the time when Jake’s “donation” was made available, Alexis Davis [Nancy Lee Grahn] was working on all sorts of avenues to find a kidney, even those that weren’t quite ethical. In the end, if there was a kidney transplant, there is the big question about whose kidney is in Joss. Here are some ideas…

#1 Could Josslyn have a kidney from The Balkan?

Theo Hoffman, aka The Balkan [Daniel Benzali], died close to the same time as Jake, so he’s an outlier possibility as the source of the mystery kidney, but his death at the hands of Suzanne Stanwyck [Adrienne Barbeau] came a few days too late to be the likely donor.

#2 Could Josslyn have a kidney from Brandon Lowell?

Brandon Lowell [Ross Thomas] also died within a week of little Jake Spencer as well. And he was a dirtbag abuser and rapist, so who would care even if he was offed specifically to take a kidney. He died at the hands of a hit woman and could be a possible donor. Maybe.

#3 Could Josslyn have an illegal kidney from Cassadine sources?

No doubt Helena could have worked the same sketchy channels that Alexis was working to turn up a kidney for Josslyn once the dialog about the donation started up. Helena would have done this to be able to take an intact Jake away as part of her kidnapping plot. This is likely.

#4 Could Josslyn have never needed a kidney to start with?

This one is way out there, but maybe Joss didn’t have the disease we thought. Remember Dr. Terrell Jackson [Khary Payton] diagnosed Joss and did the transplant surgery. Jackson was a schemer who was never seen again after the surgery. Perhaps he was lying all along.

At a minimum, Jackson must have been on Helena’s payroll and did the sketchy transplant. But maybe he was also lying about Joss’s illness for some self-serving reason and the little girl was never sick. Jackson could have made an incision then sewed her back up so she would have a scar in the right spot.

No matter how GH writers try and rewrite history to cover for this messy resurrected Jake plotline, it seems like Jackson is a likely scapegoat since he’s no longer in Port Charles. ‘General Hospital’ spoilers indicate that Helena will be back in Port Charles this Fall so maybe she’ll explain it then – that gives the writers time to scramble and come up with something halfway plausible to explain this all away (good luck with that).
