Nutty Nina Clay [Michelle Stafford] is a fan favorite character and ‘General Hospital’ spoilers indicate we’re going to get more quality screen time with the reformed lunatic now that she’s helming Port Charles’ fashion magazine Crimson. Julian Jerome [William deVry] shocked his honey Alexis Davis [Nancy Lee Grahn] when he awarded Nina the editor-in-chief position at Crimson, even though Nina came in asking for a shot at fashion editor.
But, once Nina scooted out of there thrilled at her new job, Julian explained to Alexis that he has major tax problems now that he’s trying to be a legit businessman and, if Crimson goes belly up, he can get a huge write off that will wipe out most of his debt. The problem is, both Julian and Alexis have underestimated Nina’s moxie and we’re betting Crimson is going to be in the black – not the red – very soon which means Julian’s tax situation will be worse than ever.

You have to love when Julian showed Alexis his financial statement she said, “You know this is how they got Al Capone, don’t you?” Then Julian said the only way to save Crimson “was with a large infusion of cash” since “it’s bleeding money.” And then in waltzed Nina and Julian decided to do what everyone else has done in Nina’s life – exploit her and take advantage. But we’ve got fingers crossed that Nina is going to show Julian that he wasn’t betting on the losing horse, as he hoped, when he hired her.
Here’s what Nina has going for her that can help her take Crimson from bust to boom:
#1 Nina has Maxie at her side
Maxie Jones [Kirsten Storms] practically ran Crimson when Kate Howard flaked out (which was often) so by making an impromptu doorstep hire of Maxie, Nina scored an inside track on the magazine biz. Maxie will be uber-determined to make Crimson a success since she needs a win in her column after seeing her dreams of being an indie film actress go up in smoke when Dillon Quartermaine [Robert Palmer Watkins] called quits on filming due to his broken heart. Not only can Maxie help run the joint, but because she’s got history at Crimson, she might notice if Julian tries to sabotage their efforts at success so he can get the tax write off he needs.
#2 Nina has Franco at her side
Remember Franco [Roger Howarth] has also decided he wants to be gainfully employed, but Dr Liesl Obrecht [Kathleen Gati] warned him that he had to pass a psychological evaluation to get his art therapy job back. Even without the tumor, it seems like Franco may not get an ‘A’ on that test. But he does know art and we could totally see him working for Nina as Crimson’s new art director. This would be very fulfilling for Franco since he’s lost his talent for painting now that his tumor is out but still has artistic sensibilities. Franco working with Nina would be amazing to watch and he could bring a new perspective to Crimson’s art design and layout that could make it cutting edge and better than ever.
#3 Nina has impeccable taste
No matter that she’s a notorious nutter, Nina does have good taste. Remember, she was raised with a silver spoon in her mouth. Despite her mother Madeline West’s [Donna Mills] murderous ways, she did have style and raised Nina to have it as well. Between Maxie and Nina, there’s little doubt that Crimson could set style trends and bring notoriety, advertisers, and profits to Julian’s now-ailing publication. The problem is, that’s not what Julian wants. He thinks Nina is too crazy to run a business (and he may not be totally wrong there) and will run Crimson into the ground. But growing up wealthy, Nina knows you need talented staff to help you do things, so she stands a good chance.
Will Nina buy Crimson outright?
If Nina does do a great job helming Crimson, which we think she will, and Julian can’t sabotage her efforts thanks to Nina’s guard dog Maxie, perhaps Julian will ask Nina to buy the magazine outright. She can certainly afford it and that would give Nina a permanent place in the Port Charles business landscape. It would also give Julian a stack of cash to pay off Uncle Sam and keep him out of jail, so it would be a win-win.

We love that Nina’s new job as editor will put her front and center in plotlines and will expand her interaction with more characters. GH has a tendency to pigeonhole characters in plotlines so they don’t come into contact with others in the landscape – this storyline will allow for lots of crossover. Crimson can host galas, red carpet events, and spawn plenty of juicy plots to keep us thrilled for quite a while. Nina could even hire Dillon to run a video channel for Crimson – the possibilities are endless!
