‘General Hospital’ News: Tequan Richmond Cast in Showtime Pilot – What Does This Mean For GH’s TJ?

Great news for “General Hospital” fans! You’ll get to see more of TJ Ashford (Tequan Richmond) because he has been cast in an as-yet-unnamed pilot for Showtime. Since TJ is wrapped up in the “Who shot Sonny Corinthos” (Maurice Bernard) storyline, the young actor just might find that he is very busy man!

Lena Waithe – writer and producer of “Dear White People” and “Twenties”– will serve as writer and producer of the Chicago-based drama. Tequan Richmond has been cast as Emmett, described as a young and good-looking African-American teenager who believes his identity is wrapped up in his sexual prowess. Just a child himself, Emmett has fathered three children – and they all have different mothers. Emmett’s life will be forever changed – as will his perspective of what it means to be a man – when he finds himself forced to raise one the children. This role will be quite a departure from the seemingly innocent young man he portrays on “General Hospital.”

Deadline.com reports that the all-star cast includes Aisha Hinds (“Under the Dome”), Olivia Dawson and Alex Henderson (“Empire”), Sierra McClain (“House of Payne”) and Jason Weaver (“The Ladykillers”). Elwood Reid will serve as the co-developer, showrunner and executive producer for the hour-long drama. The Showtime pilot may not have a name yet, but the character descriptions are intriguing. Aisha Hinds has been cast as Emmet’s mother Jada. She is described as a young, strong, smart single mother – a survivor with a surprising mix of anger, humor, honesty and love.

The news that Tequan has landed a role for the Showtime pilot comes just a few days after the good news of Nicolas Bechtal’s being cast on the new Disney comedy “Stuck in the Middle.” Though “GH” is cutting back a bit on the use of the younger actors it seems as if they will be kept very busy with other projects. Congrats to Tequan! We wish you great success as you add another great acting role to your already impressive resume. But don’t stay away too long – TJ is an important part of “General Hospital” and we hope he’ll be able to handle both jobs!
